Who is Scott Satterfield? Five things to know about the new Cincinnati Bearcats coach
The University of Cincinnati is hiring Scott Satterfield away from the University of Louisville ahead of their matchup in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl.
Cincinnati hires Satterfield eight days after former coach Luke Fickell left the Bearcats to be the new head coach for the University of Wisconsin Badgers.
Satterfield, a 49-year-old Hillsborough, North Carolina, native, leaves Louisville three years after being named the ACC Coach of the Year.

Here are five things to know about Satterfield:
Former quarterback at Appalachian State
Satterfield was a first-team, all-conference quarterback for Appalachian State in 1995 when he accounted for more than 2,000 yards (1,461 passing and 649 rushing yards) from scrimmage. The Mountaineers completed a perfect regular season en route to a conference championship that year.
AAC Coach of the Year
Satterfield took over the Louisville football program in 2019. The 2018 season saw the Cardinals finish 2-10 under head coach Bobby Petrino while being winless in conference play. The Cardinals then turned things around with a 7-5 record in Satterfield's first season and a 5-3 conference record. Louisville went on to beat Mississippi State in the Music City Bowl at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
Salary, contract buyout information
Satterfield is the 55th-highest-paid head coach in the Football Bowl Subdivision with a $3.25 million salary and he made $200,000 in bonuses for the 2020-21 season. Because Satterfield is leaving before the end of the calendar year, Louisville is owed $3.5 million, according to the coach's contract. When Fickell left, he was making $5.05 million per year, which ranked 27th in the country.
Coaching record in college football
Although Cincinnati will only be the third stop in Satterfield's head coaching career, he's had success at both of his previous stops. Satterfield's first head coaching job was at his alma mater, Appalachian State. His record as a head coach is 76-48 and he's 4-1 in bowl games.
Wife, family information
Satterfield is married to Beth Satterfield. They were married in 1996 after the pair graduated from Appalachian State. Beth was a college track athlete, and the couple has three children: Bryce, Isaac and Alli.
