Sarah Nicole Landry speaks 'from the heart' about weight loss in 'beautiful' new post
The Canadian influencer says the new year will "change nothing" about how she accepts her body image.
Sarah Nicole Landry isn't letting the new year ruin her self-love.
On Tuesday, the Canadian influencer — also known as The Birds Papaya — took to Instagram to share a recent photo of herself wearing a nude-coloured underwear set, with her wavy hair running long over her shoulders. The Guelph, Ont.-native also included a side-by-side comparison of two photos of herself showing how her body has changed over time.
Alongside the shots, the body positivity advocate added a candid caption "from the heart" about her weight loss and self-worth.
"Because that time of year is coming. Where everything we feel neutral or even good about in ourselves we will begin to question. What we eat. How we move. How we dress. Our size. Our worth. Our very being. Am I doing enough? Am I 'good' enough? The hardest part of weight loss for me wasn't losing the weight. It was the soul-crushing reality that losing weight didn't do what I expected," she wrote in her caption.
Landry continued to explain that her weight loss didn't help her feel happy, content or confident in her body nor did it make her feel "more worthy of being in this world."
She added that she made major restrictions to achieve her weight loss.
"I did it because I wanted to be more present in my life and with my kids, and yet became slowly more secluded as my body monitoring and food fears took over, " she explained. "I'd cry watching my family enjoy movie and pizza night as I made a side salad with dressing sprayed on so I wouldn't accidentally pour too many calories. I was tired. Worn down. Moody.
"Hating yourself happy simply doesn't work. Is all of this one big ploy of distraction to keep us small and keep us quiet? I wonder daily. I don't know I'll ever be content in my body. Thin or thick, it feels weird to try. It's changing as we speak. It'll do so a thousand times over."
Landry then shared how focusing on the present helped her achieve more in life.
"I've accomplished more by actively leaning into the now instead of shaming it and chasing tomorrow. Then I thank the versions of me that got me here. Through thick and thin," she wrote. "Jan. 1 will change nothing, except another day to choose love, another day to show up. Nourish her. Move her. Clothe her. Another day to get to live in *this* body. However she gifts me that day."
Fellow social media stars and fans expressed their support for Landry in the comments of her post, with many sharing how much they resonate with her words.
"You are an incredible human. Thank you for sharing so vulnerably for others. You're a damn gift to humanity," commented hairstylist Sarai Speer.
"Love you and your voice. We are made better by your boldness in this space," wrote author and blogger Jessica N. Turner.
"This is beautiful," influencer Mik Zazon penned, alongside a red heart emoji.
"Love. This. I always used to say at the beginning of my weight loss that 'I won't stop until my stomach is completely flat' (eye roll)," added a fan. "But having a flat stomach did nothing for me. Hating yourself, doesn't work. You are so right."
