Rutherford basketball player Ava Butler has been voted this week's News Herald Athlete of the Week for the week of Jan. 24-29.
The freshman forward earned 54.47 percent of the votes cast by News Herald readers, beating out other nominees such as Lexi Clark of Mosley High School (42.57 percent), Derrick Williams of Mosley High School (1.69 percent), Timmy Brown of Bay High School (0.68 percent), Chris Bibbs of North Bay Haven (0.33 percent), Emily Djagbare of Arnold High School (0.14 percent), Karen Jones of Arnold High School (0.07 percent), Ronni Lashley of Arnold High School (0.03 percent), and Paige Anderson of Arnold High School (0.03 percent).
Butler had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Rams' 64-49 victory over Arnold, making 6 of 7 shots from beyond the 3-point arc.

What it is your favorite sports moment?
Hitting five threes in one of my first games against Fort Walton Beach.
How/When did you get started playing your sport?
While I was in the fifth grade attending Deane Bozeman, my former coach, coach Brown trained me how to play basketball which is the sport that I now love.
What do you love about the sport you play?
I like the bond between my teammates, we always have fun playing basketball together.
Who is an athlete you look up to and why?
Stephen Curry because he is a great shooter.
What are you interested in studying in college?
Business.
What is your greatest non-athletic talent?
Playing NBA 2K.
What is your favorite movie?
Thunderstruck.
What is your favorite food?
Zaxbys.
What is your favorite book?
The Mockingbird.
What's on your playlist right now?

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
To never give up no matter how much you want to.
What is one thing you're excited about right now?
Playing South Walton for district champs.
