Here's a roundup of recent incidents and announcements from Ventura County agencies:
Carport collapses in Oxnard
OXNARD — The carport at an Oxnard apartment building collapsed suddenly on Wednesday morning, according to the Oxnard Fire Department.
The incident occurred at 10:40 a.m. in the 3600 block of Saviers Road.
Battalion Chief Mike McCaslin said seven cars were trapped under the collapsed carport, though none of the vehicles were occupied. Oxnard building and safety personnel responded to stabilize the structure.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the collapse is under investigation. The owner of the building was contacted and said he planned to demolish the carport, according to McCaslin.
The carport is the second to collapse in Ventura County this month. On Sept. 11, a carport fell at a residential site next to CSU Channel Islands after a driver hit a support beam. The collapse damaged several vehicles and injured the driver who hit the beam.
Woman arrested in park stabbing
OXNARD — Officers arrested a 30-year-old Oxnard woman suspected of stabbing a 75-year-old man at a local park in June, according to the Oxnard Police Department.
The stabbing occurred shortly before 7 a.m. on June 6 at Lemonwood Park, 2055 San Mateo Place.
The victim had been walking through the park when he was assaulted in an unprovoked attack. He suffered a nonfatal stab wound to his neck and was treated at a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, authorities said.
Over the next three months, investigators with the police agency's violent crimes unit worked to identify the suspect. On Wednesday, police detained the woman at her residence in the 2100 block of Joyce Place. She was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and booked into county jail.
