RJ Day follows in Ryan Day's footsteps, earns first Division I offer from Boston College

Ryan Day's son is officially on the path to becoming a college quarterback.

RJ Day, the Ohio State football coach's son, who is a freshman quarterback at St. Francis DeSales High School, received his first Division 1 offer Sunday night from former Ohio State co-defensive coordinator and current Boston College football coach Jeff Hafley.

In his first high school game with DeSales Friday, RJ Day threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to secure the team's win with less than a minute to go, beating Tri-Valley, 21-17.

"It was a pretty cool moment," Ryan Day said when asked about that moment in Monday's press conference.

Before becoming Ohio State's football coach, Ryan Day was New Hampshire's 1996 Gatorade Player of the Year before signing with New Hampshire in 1997. Under offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, Day was a three-year starting quarterback, setting records in pass completions (653), touchdown passes (53) completion percentage (59.9%) and total offense (8,492 yards).

Day earned his degree in Business Administration in 2002 before beginning his coaching career as New Hampshire's tight ends coach that season.
