Restaurants and grocery stores open for Thanksgiving
If you're looking to leave the heavy lifting to somebody else Thanksgiving Day, there are plenty of local restaurants willing to do the cooking for you.
Here’s a beginning list of some restaurants staying open to serve customers on Thanksgiving Day.

Grocery stores
Harris-Teeter, all stores, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day
Food Lion, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thanksgiving Day
Ingles, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thanksgiving Day
Publix, closed
Restaurants open Thanksgiving Day
Waffle House, all locations. "We're open Christmas Day, too. We're open 365 days a year, 24/7. If you go out on Thanksgiving Day, make sure you come by the Waffle House on Remount Road (in Gastonia)," said wait staff worker Amanda Cavender.
Cracker Barrell, all locations, open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thanksgiving. Closed on Christmas − "That's our holiday," said a worker in Gastonia.
Denny's, 2025 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, open 24 hours. Worker not sure about Christmas
Golden Coral, all locations, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Closed Christmas
McDonald's, most locations, check hours. Closed Christmas
Webb's Custom Kitchen, 182 S. Street, open starting at 11 a.m., regular menu and special Thanksgiving fare
Steak n' Shake, 2656 E. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, open 24 hours
Drift on Lake Wylie, 31-M Lanyard Lane, Belmont, both dine-in and take-out
Fatz Cafe, 1235 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, opens at 11 a.m., regular and Thanksgiving menu
Grandma Hoyt's Country Buffet, 421 E. Virginia, Ave., Bessemer City, open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., traditional favorites and homemade baked goods.
Jackson's Cafeteria will be open 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thanksgiving Day. Closed on Friday.
