Josh Lee, Georgia’s director of football operations since December of 2014, has resigned.

Lee was a key staffer under head coach Kirby Smart who had been with him for all six of his seasons.

The resignation comes amid an investigation by UGA’s Equal Opportunity Office, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Lee did not respond for requests for comment Monday night by the Athens Banner-Herald.

“The Athletic Association can confirm that Director of Football Operations Josh Lee has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities," UGA athletics said in a statement late Monday night. "We do not have any further comment.”

Lee was the point person in football in lining up nonconference schedules that included more power five conference opponents including Ohio State, Florida State and Oklahoma and Texas before they joined the SEC.

Lee’s annual salary was $208,000.

He was also responsible for overseeing team-related activities including travel and the program’s budget.

Lee was a graduate assistant on Georgia’s staff for two years starting in 2005 when Smart was running backs coach. Lee worked mostly with the wide receivers.

He worked at UAB from 2006-11, including three seasons as director of football operations. He worked in Birmingham in the technology industry for three years before returning to UGA.

Lee is a Valdosta State graduate who worked with the quarterbacks at that school in 2003-04.

Georgia is practicing this week for the Dec. 31 Orange Bowl in Miami. The team is to arrive Sunday for game week preparations on site.
