'I have remorse': Angela Wagner concludes testimony in son's Pike County murder case
"I have regret. I have remorse. I'm more than sorry. But that's not enough."
So said Angela Wagner on Thursday about her family's plan to kill seven members of the Rhoden family and one future member.
"She was a baby and she was my family," Angela Wagner continued, referring to the grandchild whom the Wagners believed was being harmed by members the Rhoden family.
Other highlights from Thursday afternoon as Angela Wagner concluded her third and final day of testimony in the aggravated murder trial of her eldest son George Wagner IV include:
Angela Wagner said she at first was opposed to killing the Rhodens, a plan she has said was hatched by her husband George "Billy" Wagner III and his other son Edward “Jake” Wagner when they became convinced that Jake Wagner's daughter, whom he shared with Hanna Rhoden, was being harmed.
Angela Wagner said leading up to the homicides, she asked both sons whether they wanted to go through with committing them. "Yes," she said they both answered, while citing the need to protect Sophia.
When asked if Hanna Rhoden having supervised visits with Sophia at the Wagner household would have protected her, Angela Wagner answered "Yes."
"Would Hanna ever have agreed to that?" Special Prosecutor Angela Canepa asked as a follow-up. "No," Angela Wagner answered.
Referring to Angela Wagner, her husband and two sons, Canepa was asked toward the end of the testimony: "Do you agree or not that you are all guilty of these crimes?" "Yes," Wagner answered.
