Former Texas Tech star Janine Beckie will miss the rest of the National Women's Soccer League season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to an announcement Friday by her team, the Portland Thorns FC.

The Thorns said Beckie will have surgery on her right knee in the coming weeks and will do rehabilitation with the club's sports medicine staff. The Oregonian reported Beckie suffered the contact injury during the Thorns' preseason match Wednesday against the U.S. Under-23 women's national team.

Beckie, a 28-year-old forward, played in 17 games last year for Portland, which won the NWSL championship. She's also played in the NWSL for the Houston Dash (2016-17) and the New Jersey-based Sky Blue FC (2018) and in the Women's Super League with Manchester City (2018-22).
