Queen Elizabeth II—and Her Dog!—Leave for Windsor Castle
BAZAAR.com can confirm that Queen Elizabeth II left Buckingham Palace for Windsor Castle earlier today.
The queen traditionally spends the Easter holiday at Windsor Castle every year but left a week ahead of schedule due to concerns surrounding coronavirus.
Several of the queen's royal engagements, including her Buckingham Palace garden parties, have been canceled or postponed amid the global pandemic.
Queen Elizabeth II is taking precaution amid the coronavirus pandemic—but not without her loyal pup in tow.
A source confirms to BAZAAR.com that the queen left Buckingham Palace for Windsor Castle earlier this morning. The monarch traditionally spends time at the Berkshire-based castle every year for the Easter holiday but traveled a week ahead of schedule to take caution amid growing concerns surrounding coronavirus.
Photos of the queen leaving Buckingham Palace showcased the monarch wearing a blue cardigan, quilted vest, and bright pink lipstick as she headed off to her Easter abode. The queen was joined by one of her adorable dogs who nonchalantly gazed at the crowds and cameras outside of their window.
"It is likely The Queen will stay [at Windsor Castle] beyond the Easter period," reads a statement from Buckingham Palace regarding the queen's upcoming engagements. The sovereign's husband, the Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has also arrived to Windsor to join her, as planned.
Along with her Easter weekend itinerary, the queen has adjusted a slew of events due to the pandemic. Her annual Buckingham Palace garden parties will be postponed until next year and upcoming visits to Cheshire and Camden were canceled. Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla also canceled their tour of Bosnia, Herzegovina, Cyprus, and Jordan, while Prince William and Duchess Kate chose not to host their annual St. Patrick's Day event (though not because of coronavirus; rather, it was due to the Irish Guards' first battalion being deployed).
"In consultation with the Medical Household and Government, a number of public events with large numbers of people due to have been attended by The Queen, and other Members of the Royal Family, in the coming months will be cancelled or postponed," Buckingham Palace confirms.
Whether or not royal events later this year, such as Trooping the Colour and the 75th anniversary of VE Day, will continue have yet to be confirmed by the palace.
