Litchfield QB Tyler Bills breaks own record in win over North Adams-Jerome
NORTH ADAMS — Michael Langhann and the Litchfield football team, in his first season as coach, have managed to score 30 or more points in every win this season. They added to that record with a 60-12 win over North Adams-Jerome on Friday night.
The Terriers upset the Rams' homecoming proceedings, having their best defensive performance all season. The Terriers used their extra week of prep to their advantage, and it paid off on the road. The Terriers are on pace to have their highest-scoring regular season in program history. Taking away the 2011 playoff games, Litchfield needs to score just eight more points to tie the regular season scoring total of that 2011 team, which is the highest in school history right now and the highest when counting in the playoff points (308 total season points; 254 regular season points). Defensively, the Terriers are on pace to give up the least number of points to opponents during the regular season since 2009.
The players that helped lead the Terriers to their 5-1 and record-breaking performances were all in on the offensive action this Friday night. Quarterback Tyler Bills broke his own school record for most points scored by one player in a game. His previous record was set in Week 3 against the Rams. He scored 44 points. Bills was near-perfect throwing the ball against the Rams, completing 14 of his 17 passes for 339 yards and seven touchdowns.
Junior Miguel Pedroza had eight receptions for 179 yards and five touchdowns. Andrew Erhardt got on the board with a 72-yard reception for a touchdown. Brandon Campbell had another big-time touchdown reception for 52 yards. Junior Alvarez caught two passes for 19 yards. Logan Buehrle hauled in three receptions for 17 yards.
The Terriers also had a successful day running the football, with Buehrle rushing for 71 yards. Robbie Bradstreet had 10 yards rushing and a two-point conversion. Tyler Bills had 13 rushing yards. Ricky McCafferty had a two-point conversion, heading into the backfield from his spot on the line. Junior Alvarez stepped up in a major way for the Terriers. Alvarez filled in at offensive guard due to an injury and coach Langhann said Alvarez played a great game.
Andrew Erhardt had his first running back carries this week, taking an option pass for a touchdown.
Defensively for the Terriers, Logan Buehrle had 10.5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Logan got his hands on a Rams' pass and took it to the house for a touchdown. Andrew Erhardt had 7.5 tackles and forced a fumble and recovered one. Junior Alvarez had 7.5 tackles. Brandon Campbell had six tackles and a fumble recovery and one interception. Tyler Bills had an interception and 5.5 tackles. Ricky McCafferty and Hunter Snyder had 5.5 tackles each. Robbie Bradstreet had four tackles.
"I'm very proud of how our defense came together and played tough football and it showed today," said Langhann. "The team played as one."
It's time for people to start believing in the Terrier playoff hype, if you haven't done so already. The Terriers have already matched their highest win total since 2011 and with two games remaining, they have a chance to set a new win total record since the start of their 8-player journey in 2011. If the Terriers win their final two games, they should find themselves playoff bound.
Standing in their way will be the Tigers of Battle Creek St. Phillip. The Tigers have played relatively well so far this season and boast a 3-4 overall record. They are winners of their past two games, in which they've put up 50-plus points in each contest. Litchfield hosts the Tigers next Friday at 7:00 p.m.
North Adams-Jerome falls to 1-6. The Rams struggled to contain and keep up with the Terriers' explosive offense. Despite their loss on homecoming, the team celebrated a milestone for their standout senior running back, Casey Loper. Loper, who was also named Homecoming King, eclipsed 1,000 total rushing yards this season. This is his second year in a row achieving that milestone.
Casey Loper had 213 total yards and one touchdown. Thaden Welch had one touchdown. Defensively, Jace Brink had nine tackles, including a sack.
The Rams have two more games left to add to their win total. They will look to play spoilers against Pittsford and Camden-Frontier in their final two games of the season.
Both games will be held at North Adams-Jerome.
