Triway 19, CVCA 0

Carter Wachtel was perfect as Triway stayed perfect this season.

This one was over quickly as Triway scored 19 runs through the first three innings to beat CVCA. That was more than enough for Wachtel, who fired her third no-hitter of the season and her first perfect game of the year. She struck out all 15 batters she faced as the Titans needed just five innings to pick up their 14th win.

"It's awesome and not a lot of kids can do this," said Titans coach Ron Rock. "She doesn't get fazed and keeps getting better and improving each day. As a sophomore, I am just excited how she keeps going. It's just the beginning."

Hailey Massaro pounded a three-run home run to dead center, was 3-for-3 and drove in five runs. Katie Hoffa belted a first inning double, was 3-for-4 and scored twice and Emma Hudson had an RBI single, two-run double was 4-for-4 and finished with three RBIs. Emily Yacapraro, Haylee Pruitt, Hanna Massaro and Wachtel each finished with two hits for the Titans.

SOFTBALL

Wooster 6, Orrville 5

Wooster earned its third win of the year and second in a row, this time holding on late to beat rival Orrville.

"A close win like this gives us momentum going into the last half of our season," said Wooster's Addie Wharton. "It shows that we can compete with any team we have ahead of us."

The Red Riders nearly rallied in the bottom seventh when Abby Ankenman singled home Candace Troyer to cut the Wooster lead to 6-3. Morgan Ankenman singled and the two sisters advanced into scoring position on Jayne Wallace's groundout. Abby scored on a passed ball and Averi Haley drove in Morgan with an RBI groundout.

Orrville then go the tying run onto first when Morgan Vodika walked, but Wharton buckled down to induce Annie Ayers into a groundout back to her to end the threat.

The Generals broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth when Rileigh McGrew scored on a passed ball and Tori Pettorini crossed home plate on Promise Markley's sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. Hannah Chupp then re-extended it back to two runs in the sixth, scoring when Wharton hit into a fielder's choice. Emily Boyd scored on an error and Markley plated McGrew for what turned into the game's deciding run.

Wharton notched the complete-game win with three strikeouts for the Generals.

"My changeup pitch was really working tonight," said Wharton. "I was pleased with how pitched, but I know I can always one up that performance and come back stronger the next game."

As the Generals build for the stretch run, Wharton talked about the team chemistry and how it impacted tonight's win.

"Our team really came together and played as one tonight."

Waynedale 11, Rittman 1

Kenzie Gatti scored the run that ended this one early, but it was Kaitlyn Miller's slam that capped a 10-run first as Waynedale defeated Rittman. Miller made her shot count as she cleared the bases for a grand slam giving her five RBIs after an RBI groundout to start the run.

Neveha Persinger and Emma Stanely both drew bases-loaded walks and Gatti was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

That was all that the Golden Bears needed as Miller fanned six in going the distance.

Savannah Smith had an RBI single that drove in Olivia Csirmaz for Rittman. Elexa Simonton, Miah Hutchison, Smith and Emily Bucy each had a hit and Francesca Taylor was 2-for-2.

Tuslaw 12, Fairless 1

Tuslaw pounded out 13 hits led by Meridith Rankl and Macaira Fox as it defeated Fairless in PAC action. Rankl was 3-for-3, with two RBIs and two runs scored, and twirled a gem with 12 strikeouts. Fox was 3-for-4, ripping two triples, scoring three runs and driving in a pair.

Camryn Kiefer and Kylie Johnson both played well for the Mustangs with two hits apiece.

Dalton 20, Our Lady of the Elms 1

Dalton smashed out 22 hits, five of which were doubles, as they beat Our Lady of the Elms.

Lexi Vazquez led the hit parade with four hits and drove in seven runs, Chloe Simmons and Joey Reynolds both had three hits, with Reynolds driving in three. Piper Canon, Emily Snyder, Reynolds, Vazquez and Simmons all had doubles for the Bulldogs.

Notching the win was Cadence Casto with six strikeouts over five innings of work.

Rittman's Logan Pelfrey has been lighting up opposing pitchers of late as he has been hitting .462 over his last four games.
Rittman's Logan Pelfrey has been lighting up opposing pitchers of late as he has been hitting .462 over his last four games.

Rittman 6, Lake Ridge Academy 5

With a roster that is extremely young, Rittman has done a lot of learning on the fly. One those is sophomore Logan Pelfrey, who has made contact consistently but just hasn't found holes in the field. Until recently at least, as Pelfrey now has collected two hits in three of his past four games and is hitting .462 in that stretch.

Today was more the same as Pelfrey belted a key fifth inning double that plated Landon Simonton to cut the Indians deficit to one at 4-3.

"He really settled in and has done a good job of putting the ball in play," said Rittman coach Joe Staley. "That has been his big improvement as we tell the kids, if you put the ball in play, anything can happen. He is very versatile and just wants to get better every day."

That set up a three-run sixth inning as the Indians rallied past Lake Ridge Academy in game played at Sprenger Stadium, home of the Lake Erie Crushers of the Frontier League. Most recently, former Orrville standout J.T. Perez played there.

Jonah Carr tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth with an RBI double as Justin Metheney and Caleb Smith both drew bases-loaded walks for Rittman.

"We didn't come out ready to play, because we had a new lineup in the field," said Staley. "But we adjusted, finally calmed down, got the lead back and then held on. Being such an extremely young team, to be able to pull together and get a win like this, is good."

Metheney notched the win in relief with five strikeouts over three innings of work as Aiden Milosevich started and fanned five over three innings.

Waynedale 8, Canton Central Catholic 5

A pair of second inning bases-loaded walks gave Waynedale a lead it never gave back as it broke a 2-2 tie and lifted it past Canton Central Catholic in a game called after five innings due to rain.

Ian Lehman pounded a two-run double in the third to extend it to 6-3 and Trey Barkman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Dylan Raber added two hits and scored a run as Jay Mast scored a pair for the Golden Bears.

"Dylan and Trey had some big hits for us today to put some runs on the board," said Waynedale coach Lucas Daugherty. "We had five other players with hits as well, so it was truly a team effort. Canton Central Catholic is always a tough opponent and they put a lot of pressure on us, but we battled hard and made some plays in big situations."

On the hill, Timmy Short was dynamite with seven strikeouts in tossing 4⅓ innings and Otto Solorzano slammed the door in one-third of an inning with one strikeout to get the save.

"We have had a stretch of games against tough opponents," added Daugherty. "Our pitching has been solid over this stretch and we are fortunate to have multiple starting pitchers that can keep us in games.

"Trey, Braden (Hershberger), Ian (Lehman) and Otto all had great starts this past week," he said. "Our hitting has really picked up and we are bale to get runners on base consistently and now we are starting to have timely hitting to score runs."

With the win, the Golden Bears moved to 9-4 on the season.

CVCA 12, Triway 0

Triway mustered just one hit in this Principals Athletic Conference loss to CVCA.

Tisko supplied the second inning single as the Titans used three different arms in this one. Weaver took the setback as Kade Whitman worked 2⅔ innings in relief and struck out three.

Triway 5, Medina Buckeye 4 (Sunday)

Kain Weaver singled home Grant Schag in the fourth in what proved to be the deciding run as Triway defeated Medina Buckeye at Canal Park in Akron.

A big part was Simon Kitchen delivering yet another sterling effort with six strikeouts over six innings in relief to earn the decision and his third win on the year.

"Simon pitched very well once again," said Triway coach Justin McDowell. "He settled in and gave us a good chance to win once our bats finally work up during the middle part of the game. He has good poise on the mound and we fell confident with him out there."

Leading the Titans was Carter Schmid with a triple, totaled two hits and scored a run, and Weaver had two hits and an RBI. Chad Harper added a third inning RBI triple and scored on Brock Tisko's sacrifice fly.
