It is one of the most exciting days of the year — Black Friday.
The annual shopping event that falls the day after Thanksgiving is widely known as one of the biggest shopping day of the year and for many, it's a tradition to stand in line at big box stores waiting for the hottest deals and products.
But this year might we suggest that you spend some time on Black Friday visiting some of Topeka's locally owned businesses?
Many of them will be open Nov. 26 and ready to welcome customers as they prepare for the holidays.
The Capital-Journal has compiled a list of retail stores that will be open this Black Friday, allowing you to shop small and shop local.

Home at Last
If you are shopping for home décor items for yourself or family and friends, Home at Last is the perfect place to shop.
The home décor store, 5331 S.W. 22nd Place inside of Fairlawn Plaza Mall, will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.
Yak 'n Yarn
Needing to stock up on your sewing and needlework materials? Yak 'n Yarn, 5331 S.W. 22nd Place inside Fairlawn Plaza Mall, will be open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday.
Prairie Glass Studio
There is no better place in Topeka to buy beautiful, homemade ornaments than at Prairie Glass Studio, 506 S.W. 10th Ave.
If you are decorating your Christmas tree this weekend or shopping for the perfect stocking stuffer, stop in at Prairie Glass Studio 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday.

Head to downtown Topeka anytime between 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday for a shopping spree at Leaping Llamas Artisan Shop, 725 S. Kansas Ave.
The locally owned business is your go-to shop for all kinds of artwork and unique finds.
4 Girls Garage
4 Girls Garage, 837 N. Kansas Ave., will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.
This home décor store in NOTO is a great spot for Christmas decorations and furniture.
Stumpy's Smoked Cheese
If you are in need of a midday Black Friday pick-me-up, stop in at Stumpy's Smoked Cheese, 2104 N.W. Topeka Blvd., 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday.
The local business sells everything from smoked cheese, coffee and meat to spices, dairy products and homemade goods.
It's the perfect place to stock up on Christmas presents.
The business will also have its food truck set up outside.
Amused
Amused, an art gallery in NOTO at 907 N. Kansas Ave. that features 10 artists and vendors, will be open 11 a.m.-8 p.m Friday.
If you are needing a unique piece of artwork to gift to someone special, this is the place to go.
Corner Market
Corner Market, 900 N. Kansas Ave., sells home décor, furniture, antiques, clothing and collectibles.
The shop in NOTO will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.
Pinkadilly
Pinkadilly, a clothing store and gift shop in NOTO at 824 N. Kansas Ave., will be open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday.
Linen Tree and Co
This home décor store, 2841 S.W. 29th St. will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday.
Make sure you stop by if you are wanting to browse through the shop's home décor, kitchen and baby linens and gift items.
The store also offers complimentary gift wrapping making gift giving an easy task for you this year.
Stitching Traditions
Stitching traditions, 2900 S.W. Oakley Ave., will be open 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday.
It is the perfect time for you to stop in and stock up on your sewing and quilting supplies.
