It is one of the most exciting days of the year — Black Friday.

The annual shopping event that falls the day after Thanksgiving is widely known as one of the biggest shopping day of the year and for many, it's a tradition to stand in line at big box stores waiting for the hottest deals and products.

But this year might we suggest that you spend some time on Black Friday visiting some of Topeka's locally owned businesses?

Many of them will be open Nov. 26 and ready to welcome customers as they prepare for the holidays.

The Capital-Journal has compiled a list of retail stores that will be open this Black Friday, allowing you to shop small and shop local.

If you are shopping for home décor items for yourself or family and friends, Home at Last is the perfect place to shop.

The home décor store, 5331 S.W. 22nd Place inside of Fairlawn Plaza Mall, will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.

Needing to stock up on your sewing and needlework materials? Yak 'n Yarn, 5331 S.W. 22nd Place inside Fairlawn Plaza Mall, will be open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday.

Prairie Glass Studio

There is no better place in Topeka to buy beautiful, homemade ornaments than at Prairie Glass Studio, 506 S.W. 10th Ave.

Head to downtown Topeka anytime between 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday for a shopping spree at Leaping Llamas Artisan Shop, 725 S. Kansas Ave.

4 Girls Garage

4 Girls Garage, 837 N. Kansas Ave., will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.

This home décor store in NOTO is a great spot for Christmas decorations and furniture.

Stumpy's Smoked Cheese

Along with their own cheese products, Stumpy's Smoked Cheese, 2104 N.W. Topeka Blvd., offers a variety of local foods and products, such as Farview Farms jerky.

It's the perfect place to stock up on Christmas presents.

Amused, an art gallery in NOTO at 907 N. Kansas Ave. that features 10 artists and vendors, will be open 11 a.m.-8 p.m Friday.

If you are needing a unique piece of artwork to gift to someone special, this is the place to go.

The shop in NOTO will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday.

This home décor store, 2841 S.W. 29th St. will be open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday.
