The annual Relay for Life of Ashland County-Mid Ohio Polar Bear Dip was held on New Year's Day at Charles Mill Lake.

More than 150 people registered to take the chilly plunge to raise money for the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer.

The temperature at the 3 p.m. on New Year's Day was 50 degrees.

Groups of 10-12 registered participants took turns running into the the freezing waters at the Charles Mill Lake beach area.

Those who chose to brave the chilly waters and registered with a $25 donation received a T-shirt, which they ran out of at the event.
