Cal Brunker, who directed A Mighty Movie and the 2021 feature Paw Patrol: The Movie, returns to direct. Paramount will distribute the third Paw Patrol, with Elevation Pictures handling distribution in Canada.
Now in its 10th year, Paw Patrol began life as a TV show, and centers on a tech-savy boy and his heroic group of pups. The 2021 feature adaptation overperformed at the box office and became a sleeper hit that grossed $40 million domestically and more than $144 million worldwide, a notable sum considering it debuted simultaneously on Paramount+ and came amid pandemic pressures at the box office. The follow-up movie has a voice cast that includes Taraji P. Henson, Kristen Bell, Christian Convery, Brice Gonzalez, Mckenna Grace and Lil Rel Howery.
“Paw Patrol has entertained generations of preschoolers while subtly teaching them the value of community, inclusiveness and teamwork,” said Jennifer Dodge, president of Spin Master Entertainment. “On the cusp of the premiere of our second, super-powered film, the universal love for our pups is stronger than ever.”
Dodge will produce, along with Spin Master’s Laura Clunie and Toni Stevens, Spin Master’s senior vp, entertainment production & operations. Spin Master co-founder Ronnen Harary will executive produce.
The Paw Patrol series is just part of Paramount’s stable of animation franchises. Paramount also has animated Transformers, Smurfs and Avatar: The Last Airbender features in the works.
“Paw Patrol remains in a class of its own as a beloved and recognizable cultural touchstone for kids and families everywhere,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation & Nickelodeon Animation. “Alongside our partners at Spin Master, we are so excited to continue to bring these pups’ big screen adventures to Paw Patrol’s legion of fans around the world.”
