Palace Claims the Sussexes Decided It Wasn't "Necessary" for Meghan to Join Yesterday's Summit
The Daily Mail is reporting that Meghan Markle was barred from the royal summit.
The palace put out a statement saying "the Sussexes decided that it wasn’t necessary for The Duchess to join.”
A kinda weird update on yesterday's ~royal summit~ for ya: there are reports that Meghan Markle was "barred" from participating, while the Palace is out here claiming she and Harry didn't feel like it was "necessary" for her to join. But let's rewind for a moment. As a reminder, Her Majesty the Queen, Prince Harry, Prince Charles, and Prince William held a meeting yesterday to discuss the fallout of the Sussexes' bombshell announcement that they're stepping down from senior royal duties. Meghan was expected to call into the meeting from Canada (where she's currently staying with her son Archie), but according to The Daily Mail reporter Richard Kay, that didn't happen.
Per Kay, Meghan was "barred" from calling in, with palace officials saying the idea was abandoned because "no one knew for sure who else might have been listening in." As a source put it: "This was a highly confidential family discussion, not a conference call."
Um...the assumption that Meghan would let people listen in on a conference call seems highly unfair to the Duchess, but either way, the palace put out this statement to clear things up: “In the end, The Sussexes decided that it wasn’t necessary for The Duchess to join.”
So we’ve now had some clarification from the palace. They said: “In the end, The Sussexes decided that it wasn’t necessary for The Duchess to join [the summit].” But we understand Harry was in contact with his wife while at Sandringham, to keep her in the loop.

The good news is that it looks like Meghan and Harry's plans to peace out are being respected by the Queen, who put out a lengthy family-oriented statement saying she supports her grandson's decision.
