Incumbents Bert Perello, Gabriel Teran and Gabriela Basua were reelected to three seats on the Oxnard City Council Wednesday, certified results show.

Three of the council's six district seats were in play for last month's election. Oxnard's elected mayor rounds out the seven-member panel. Council members serve four-year terms.

The District 6 council seat is currently vacant since Vianey Lopez was appointed to the Ventura County Board of Supervisors in October to serve the remaining term of the late Carmen Ramirez.

District 1

In the northwest District 1 race, Perello had 4,743 votes, or about 47% of the total. Douglas Dean Partello was second with 2,543 votes followed by Christopher Arevalo with 1,730 votes and Eduardo Huerta with 1,091 votes.

Perello has served on the council since 2013.

“(The voters) paid attention to my track record and believe the city is going in the right direction, which compliments all three (incumbents,)" Perello said last month.

District 2

In the north-central District 2 race, Teran posted 3,644 votes, or about 65% of the total, followed by challenger Tai Hartley with 1,976 votes.

Teran was appointed to the post in February 2021 and won the seat in a special election later that year.

"Things are looking positive," Teran said in November. "I'm going to wait until the official count comes out, but I feel optimistic."

District 5

Basua led the southeast District 5 contest, taking in 2,337 votes, or 55% of the total. She was trailed by Lawrence Paul Stein with 984 votes and Armando Piña with 928 votes.

"Running is not easy," said Basua, who has represented the district since 2018. "My respects to my opponents. It's not easy to put yourself out there."

Measure C

Oxnard voters also weighed in on stricter term limits for the mayor and councilmembers. Measure C would force the elected officials to take a two-year break after serving two consecutive terms.

The measure passed with 19,072 votes, or about 55% of the total, compared to 15,362 opposed.
