The College Football Hall of Fame is gaining a Superman and an old-school superstar.

Oklahoma safety Roy Williams and Oklahoma State running back Terry Miller were among the members of the 2022 class of inductees for the College Football Hall of Fame, as first reported by Brett McMurphy of the Action Network.

Williams had 269 career tackles and 44 pass breakups. In 2001 — his final season at OU — he was named the Bronko Nagurski Award winner as college football’s best defensive player and the Jim Thorpe Award winner as the nation’s best defensive back, as well as being the Big 12 defensive player of the year and a first-team All-American.

Of course, he is best known for the iconic “Superman play” in the 2001 OU-Texas game when he dove over a blocker and into Texas quarterback Chris Simms, knocking the ball into the air, where it was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by linebacker Teddy Lehman.

Miller is one of four players with a retired number at OSU, along with Barry Sanders, Thurman Thomas and Bob Fenimore. Miller was a two-time All-American who finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting of 1976 and second in 1977.

Miller is the only OSU running back to have three 1,000-yard seasons. He finished his career with 4,754 rushing yards and 49 touchdowns on 871 carries, averaging 5.5 yards per carry and 110.6 yards per game. He was the Big Eight offensive player of the year in his final two seasons at OSU.

Williams and Miller are joined in the Hall of Fame class by Colorado running back Rashaan Salaam, Florida State linebacker Marvin Jones and Toledo and Missouri coach Gary Pinkel.

OU legend Roy Williams flies into Texas quarterback Chris Simms during the 2001 Red River Rivalry. The Sooner safety knocked the ball loose, and Teddy Lehman caught it for a victory-clinching interception return for a touchdown. Now known as the Superman play, the moment ranks as the greatest in the history of the rivalry.
