NORMAN — Jerry Schmidt, recently named OU’s strength and conditioning coach, is expected to be paid $650,000 per season, according to documents released by the school in response to an open-records request by USA Today Network.

Schmidt’s salary is an increase over what Bennie Wylie, who previously held the position, was being paid. Wylie was scheduled to make $430,000.

Schmidt was set to make $575,000 at Texas A&M for the 2022 season before leaving to join Brent Venables’ staff with the Sooners.

Defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis is set to make $600,000 while safeties coach Brandon Hall is set to make $300,000 annually.

Jamar Cain, who coached outside linebackers and defensive ends, was making $435,000 this season.

All three deals are for two seasons and are subject to approval by the OU Board of Regents. The regents aren’t scheduled to meet until March.

The deals, like the ones agreed to by offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby and defensive coordinator Ted Roof, include a $90,000 bonus for winning a national championship.

Lebby agreed to a three-year, $5.7 million deal while Roof agreed to a three-year, $3.45 million contract.

Venables, who signed a six-year, $43.5 million deal, still has one hire left on his coaching staff.
