One dead, three injured after small plane crash in Riverside County
One person was killed and three others went to the hospital with injuries after a small plane crashed in western Riverside County on Tuesday afternoon.
Cal Fire reported a plane went down near French Valley Airport in Murrieta just after 2 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration said the single-engine Cessna 172 crashed shortly after taking off.
A map of the area indicated the plane crashed to the east of the airport's runway.
The department tweeted that four people were onboard the plane. One died at the scene. Three were transported to a nearby hospital, one with serious injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA.
