Purdue beats IU to clinch Big Ten West title, trip to Lucas Oil Stadium vs. Michigan
A lot more than bragging rights were on the line today in the Old Oaken Bucket. With its 30-16 win over IU, Purdue clinched its first Big Ten West title.
The Boilermakers (8-4) will face No. 3 Michigan (12-0) in next week’s Big Ten Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Wolverines won rather convincingly at Ohio State on Saturday to book its trip to Indy.
IU took an early lead behind sophomore QB Dexter Williams, but the Hoosiers stalled after Williams was forced from the game with a leg injury.
Here’s how the Boilermakers knocked off the Hoosiers.

FINAL: Purdue 30, Indiana 16
It's on to Indianapolis for the Boilermakers.
2:17 4Q: Purdue 30, Indiana 10
Malachi Holt-Bennett has the ball stripped away from Cory Trice on a desperation fourth down play from IU's end zone and returns the ball for a touchdown and the exclamation point on another Bucket win for the Boilers.
3:40 4Q: Purdue 24, Indiana 10
Devin Mockobee is back out there after the Hoosiers turn the ball over on downs after some errant throws from Connor Bazelak.
5:13 4Q: Purdue 24, Indiana 10
Purdue running back Devin Mockobee, who was having a great night with 90 yards rushing and 58 receiving yards, is helped off the field with a leg injury. Punt Purdue.
7:18 4Q: Purdue 24, Indiana 10
IU goes for it on 4th-and-7 deep in Purdue territory, but a flushed Connor Bazelak comes up empty. That might be all she wrote.
9:38 4Q: Purdue 24, Indiana 10
Aidan O'Connell has all day to survey the field and finds Charlie Jones WIDE OPEN behind IU's defense for a 60-yard touchdown.
Charlie Jones was slightly open there. ... That 60-yard TD catch is a backbreaker for Indiana, who'd just taken momentum. The man they call Chuck Sizzle now has 4 catches for 143 yards. Purdue 24, Indiana 10, 9:38 to go.

11:06 4Q: Purdue 17, Indiana 10
A 28-yard field goal from Charles Campbell gets the Hoosiers to within one score.
28-yard field goal GOOD. IU cuts Purdue's lead to 17-10, 11:06 left 4Q. Drive helped by a long completion to Donaven McCulley and a DPI. #iufb

END 3Q: Purdue 17, Indiana 7
Boilers are 15 minutes away from the Big Ten Championship game.
2:03 3Q: Purdue 17, Indiana 7
IU lines up for a 36-yard field goal attempt from Charles Campbell, but the Boilermakers block it to preserve their two-score lead.
Purdue just blocked Charles Campbell's second field goal attempt of the game. Barring a meltdown of some variety, the road is open for Purdue to win this on the drive about to begin. #iufb

6:06 3Q: Purdue 17, Indiana 7
Devin Mockobee with an impressive, tackle-breaking run for a touchdown to stretch out the Boilermakers' lead. It looks unlikely IU can score 10 more points.

Purdue 17, Indiana 7. Devin Mockobee 27-yard run. He made defenders look bad there. Earlier on drive, picked up three on third-and-1 basically by himself.

10:35 3Q: Purdue 10, Indiana 7
Aidan O'Connell to Payne Durham for the 15-yard touchdown as momentum has clearly swung in the Boilermakers' favor. An eight-play, 82-yard drive.
As bas as the first half was, the second half couldn't have started any better for the Boilermakers. ... Payne Durham gets into the end zone from 15 yards out. Purdue 10, Indiana 7, 10:35 to go Q3.
— Sam King (@samueltking) November 26, 2022
Touchdown Purdue. Boilermakers methodical on their opening drive of the second half to retake the lead. Indiana going to have to open up its offense now, if it can. #iufb
— Zach Osterman (@ZachOsterman) November 26, 2022
13:22 3Q: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
First Hoosiers' drive of the second half goes nowhere. Doesn't seem to be a ton of faith in Connor Bazelak letting it fly, and Purdue is rightly loading the box to try and stop the now one-dimensional run game.
HALFTIME: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
Tom Allen is caffeinated, hyping up the sideline and the student section on his way to the locker room.
"We have to finish," Allen told BTN on the way off the field at the break. "Find a way to finish and take back the bucket. Period."
Halftime: #iufb 7, Purdue 3.
IU had all the momentum in the world before Williams got injured. Hoosiers get the ball to start the second half. Bazelak will have to take them the rest of the way.— Wilson Moore (@wilsmoore_) November 26, 2022
Indiana averages 101.4 rushing yards per game, 13th in the Big Ten. ... Hoosiers have 166 in the first half against Purdue. Somehow Purdue trails just 7-3. https://t.co/5N4hEVsnTV

3:35 2Q: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
It's a punting contest. Heckuva kick from Purdue's Jack Ansell pins IU back at the 1-yard line. Boilers got a big pass play to Charlie Jones for 58 yards, but the Hoosiers defense holds.
That's one of the most perfect punts you can have. Ball rolls out of bounds inside the 1-yard line. IU ball with 3:35 left. #iufb
— Wilson Moore (@wilsmoore_) November 26, 2022
4:57 2Q: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
Hoosiers pick up a few first downs, but stall. Punt downed inside the 10.
That's a great punt for Indiana. Purdue starts on the 5, 4:57 to go in the first half. Boilers have been completely outplayed aside from Purdue's first four plays and have a chance to drive and take the lead before half. Would be huge.
— Sam King (@samueltking) November 26, 2022
14:50 2Q: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
Charles Campbell isn't close on the 44-yard field goal attempt and all the Hoosiers' momentum seems to have deflated after the Dexter Williams injury.
END 1Q: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
Connor Bazelak is in at QB for the Hoosiers after Dexter Williams was carted off with his leg in an air cast. It'll be 3rd-and-12 from the Purdue 26 to start the second quarter.
0:46 1Q: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
The Hoosiers are driving after converting two fourth downs, but there's concern over QB Dexter Williams, who is down on the field injured after a non-contact situation. It's not good.
They're putting it in an air cast and getting the cart on the field. #iufb
— Zach Osterman (@ZachOsterman) November 26, 2022
The entire IU sideline is school-circled around Williams. Believe his mother is joining him on the field as well. #iufb
— Zach Osterman (@ZachOsterman) November 26, 2022
11:02 1Q: Indiana 7, Purdue 3
JAYLIN LUCAS IS RIDICULOUS. It's like watching someone run in fast forward. The freshman takes IU's first offensive snap 71 yards for a score and the Hoosiers answer right back.
Here's a playmaker to watch: @jaylinlucas1. 💥
The @IndianaFootball freshman can flat-out fly. pic.twitter.com/3P1sbK3VC6— Big Ten Network (@BigTenNetwork) November 26, 2022
Jaylin Lucas is a human missile. #iufb
— Tyler Tachman (@Tyler_T15) November 26, 2022
11:50 1Q: Purdue 3, Indiana 0
Boilers get into the red zone with ease but then bog down and have to settle for three. A third-down pass attempt to Payne Durham in the end zone was ruled incomplete and after review, the call on the field stood.
Similar start to last week for the IU defense: allowed Purdue to march 58 yards in four plays before holding in the red zone. Last play is under review, but it looks like the Boilermakers will settle for a field goal. #iufb
