Oklahoma State football's Arland Bruce IV away from team amid Iowa gambling investigation
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State wide receiver Arland Bruce IV is no longer participating in team activities due to his alleged involvement in a college football gambling scheme.
Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said Saturday that Bruce remains on scholarship.
“He’s got some things he has to work out way outside of football,” Gundy said.
Gundy said that coaches were unaware of the nature of Bruce’s involvement in the scandal until last week when he was named in the investigation by the Johnson County Attorney’s Office.
Bruce, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound junior, allegedly placed bets on 11 Hawkeye games in which he participated last season. He is one of four Iowa players named in the case, which also involves several Iowa State players.

He specifically is accused of using a DraftKings account to place bets before he turned 21, the legal gambling age in Iowa. According to the complaint filed, Bruce completed 132 sports wagers totaling $4,342.
The documents specifically allege Bruce placed two bets of “under total points,” including a game against Northwestern in which he participated. He also placed a similar bet on the Music City Bowl against Kentucky. But he did not participate.
Bruce played the past two seasons at Iowa, where he was used as a running back and receiver. He caught 44 passes and rushed the ball 22 times for a combined total of 508 yards with six touchdowns.
Bruce was expected to be a big contributor out of the inside receiver position for the Cowboys.
“We’ll move some guys around,” Gundy said. “We’ve got guys that can play multiple positions.
“He was practicing really well and was going to be a factor in our team, I’ll put it that way. So now we have to bounce some guys around a little bit.”
The gambling accusations could threaten Bruce’s collegiate eligibility. Gundy said he has no sense of a timeline for the investigation.
