Oklahoma State football to add Terry Miller to Ring of Honor on Oct. 14 vs. Kansas
Terry Miller is about to join another exclusive club.
The former Oklahoma State tailback is set to be added to the Cowboy Football Ring of Honor when OSU hosts Kansas on Oct. 14 at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, the school announced Monday.
Miller was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December.
One the top ball carriers in program history, he was an All-American in 1976 and 1977, finishing fourth and second in the Heisman voting in those two years.
Miller is the only OSU player to have three 1,000-yard rushing seasons, and he’s one of three Big Eight players with more than 4,000 career rushing yards. The other two are OSU’s Thurman Thomas and Nebraska’s Mike Rozier.

Miller led the Big Eight in rushing as a junior and senior and was the conference offensive player of the year both seasons. Overall, Miller played in 43 games with the Cowboys, finishing with 871 carries for 4,754 yards and 49 touchdowns. He averaged 5.5 yards per carry and 110.6 rushing yards per game.
Following his OSU career, Miller — who graduated from high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado — played for the Buffalo Bills from 1978-80 and the Seattle Seahawks in 1981.
The Bills drafted him with the fifth overall pick, and Miller replaced O.J. Simpson as their starting tailback. Miller had 1,060 rushing yards in his rookie season.
OSU’s Ring of Honor began in 2020 with the induction of Thomas, and one former player has been added each year.
Miller will be the fourth, joining Thomas, Bob Fenimore and Barry Sanders.
All four of those players have their number retired at OSU — Miller’s No. 43, Thomas' No. 34, Fenimore’s No. 55 and Sanders’ No. 21.

Miller’s outstanding career has resulted in lots of accolades throughout the years.
But on the day of his College Football Hall of Fame induction, he pointed out he didn’t do it alone.
He had great people around him that helped him through it all.
“I think it means that we did some things right,” Miller said. “My teammates, coaches and what have you. As far as for me, I’m just thankful that I had those other players and coaches around because I’ve never beaten one on 11. It’s a team. No 'I' in team.”
Miller also valued the education he received at OSU.
He graduated from the business school, which posted a congratulatory tweet Monday.
“This has a nice Ring to it,” the OSU Spears School of Business posted. “Congrats to 1978 Spears grad Terry Miller for this well-deserved honor.”
