Oklahoma high school softball: Class 6A-4A fastpitch state quarterfinal roundup
Makiah Brumbelow-Neal didn’t fret when Mustang intentionally walked Libby Jaques to come after her instead.
“I just need to do what I know how to do and keep it simple,” Brumbelow-Neal thought.
In the top of the fifth inning, the sophomore from Moore was put in a big spot with two runners on base and one out. She delivered in the best way possible.
Brumbelow-Neal smashed a three-run home run to center field to score Nichelle Marshall and Jaques. It was all Moore needed Thursday to take down Mustang 3-2 at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex to advance to the Class 6A state fastpitch semifinal.
“It was just a good pitch that I saw," Brumbelow-Neal said, "and my team had my back and I was just feeling it.”
Mustang was able to get two runs across in the sixth inning as Eden Anderson hit an RBI double and Reese Poage followed with an RBI of her own. But that was all Mustang could muster behind the dominant pitching of Moore’s Maddy Wiser, who struck out five batters and allowed just one walk.
After Jaques caught the final out in right field, the Lions sprinted toward each other and hugged after the thrilling win.
“This type of win is what we’ve been working on since June,” Moore coach Stephanie Riley said. “It takes every single person.”

Class 5A: Carl Albert 1, Pryor 0
Ausha Moore knew the situation.
The two teams were locked at zero runs through six innings and Pryor’s pitcher Brooklyn Stohler hadn’t given up a hit throughout the entire game. But despite Stohler’s dominance, Moore had felt like she had good at-bats and was close to a breakthrough.
“I was really trying to make her work,” Moore said.
The junior shortstop from Carl Albert did more than she had set out to do. And it sent excitement through the stands.
Moore hammered a solo home run over the left-field fence for the Titans' first hit of the game. The lone swing was all Carl Albert needed to take down Pryor to advance to the Class 5A state semifinal.
“I was sitting out but she came in and I just threw my hands at it,” Moore said. “I couldn’t even feel it, that’s how you know it was good.”
Stohler wasn’t the only outstanding pitcher of the game with 11 strikeouts and one hit. Carl Albert’s Marissa Frolich performed just as well, striking out 13 batters and giving up just one hit in the win.

Class 6A: Edmond Memorial 6, Choctaw 5
Edmond Memorial coach Kayla Carlsward just had to trust in her infield which was filled with mostly upperclassmen.
With one out and the bases loaded, Choctaw managed the hit it needed. As Harper Grice launched a double to right field that was going to most likely tie the game but also have a chance at winning it. But the tying Yellowjacket runner fell down while rounding third base and chaos ensued from there.
Choctaw had two people standing on third and another stuck in-between second and third. The Edmond Memorial defense recognized the situation and after a few throws were able to throw out the runner diving into home plate.
One out later, Edmond Memorial survived a thrilling late rally win to take down Choctaw. Memorial plated three runs in the final two innings to take the lead.
“I liked their fight,” Edmond Memorial Kayla Carlsward said. “They didn’t ever give up whenever we were behind. They stayed fighting through the whole game and they finished picking each other up which is what we’ve been talking about so they did a great job.”
