Ohio State women's tennis team falls to Stanford 4-1 in NCAA tournament
The Ohio State women's tennis team lost to host Stanford 4-1 in the Super Regional (round of 16) of the NCAA tournament Friday afternoon in Palo Alto, California.
Irina Cantos Siemers was the only victorious Buckeye. The senior won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-4 over Connie Ma.
The Buckeyes lost all three doubles sets by scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2 to drop the doubles point.
Stanford took a 2-0 lead when the Cardinal's Angelica Blake won 6-0, 6-0 over Isabelle Boulais at No. 3 singles. Ohio State fell behind 3-0 when Sydni Ratliff fell 6-2, 6-1 to Alexandra Yepifanova at No. 1 singles. After Cantos Siemers' victory, Stanford's Valencia Xu defeated OSU's Shelly Bereznykak 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
Lucia Marzal at No. 4 split sets before Stanford clinched. Danielle Wilson of OSU trailed 6-4, 4-5 at the match's conclusion in her No. 6 singles match.
Ohio State finished its season with a 22-8 record.
Ratliff and Cantos Siemers will compete in the NCAA singles competition in Orlando, Florida, starting May 22.
The No. 3 Ohio State men will host its Super Regional match Saturday at noon against No. 15 Arizona at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
