New Oak Ridge elected officials sworn in and Dodson elected mayor pro tem
Oak Ridge City Judge Robert "Bob" McNees swore in newly elected Oak Ridge City Council and Board of Education members at Monday's Council meeting in the Municipal Building courtroom.
After the swearing in, council members voted in fellow members Warren Gooch for another term as mayor and elected Jim Dodson as mayor pro tem, also known as vice mayor. Both Dodson and Chuck Hope had written letters expressing their desire to be mayor pro tem. Dodson won by a vote of 4-3 with Derrick Hammond, Ellen Smith and Charlie Hensley voting for him. Sean Gleason and Gooch voted for Hope. Both Hope and Dodson cast votes for themselves.
Gooch, the city's 10th mayor, was first elected into the office by council members in November 2014, according to city information.
Sworn in were council members Hensley, Gooch, Gleason and Smith. Dodson, Gooch and Smith are incumbents. Hensley previously served on the council and Gleason is a political newcomer, who also serves on the city's Industrial Development Board.
Erin Webb, Laura McLean and Heather Hartman were sworn in to the School Board. Webb and McLean are incumbents and Hartman is a newcomer.
All were elected in the Nov. 7 city election.
