Northern Beaufort County’s second Starbucks ‘coming soon.’ Here’s where project stands
Pumpkin pie latte. Caramel Frappuccino. Vanilla sweet cream cold brew. It won’t be too long before fans of Starbucks’ popular specialty drinks — or a simple cup of Pike Place Roast — will be able to order them on Lady’s Island.
The new store is planned on Sea Island Parkway and is getting closer to construction.
It will be the first coffee-only restaurant on Lady’s Island and the second Starbucks in northern Beaufort County along with a Starbucks on Boundary Street in Beaufort. By comparison, 14 Starbucks — stand-alone shops and coffee-counters-with-yes. stores located in other businesses like Harris Teeter, Kroger and Target — are located south of the Broad River.
Starbucks is proposing a 2,500 square-foot one-story coffee shop on three lots covering about an acre.
The Staff Review Team in Beaufort County’s Planning and Zoning Department have given conceptual approval to the site plan, Community Development Planner Nancy Moss said Thursday. Final approval is still needed before construction can begin. The architectural, landscaping and lighting plans are expected to be submitted for consideration soon, Moss said.
Carolina Retail Experts, a Charleston-based retail commercial real estate company, said on Twitter in July that it represented Starbucks in securing the lease for the new location at Sea Island Parkway between Gay and Ferry roads. Starbucks, it said, “is coming soon.”
The Beaufort Gazette and Island Packet first reported in February 2022 that Starbucks was looking at the site on the south side of Sea Island Parkway. At that time, the Seattle-based coffee giant would not confirm its plans. Company officials did not respond to an email this week seeking comment.
