No visit to Tiverton's Four Corners is complete without a stop at Gray's Ice Cream

Tiverton’s Four Corners is home to a hodgepodge of historical landmarks, artistic displays, and eateries. Gray’s Ice Cream takes up one of the four corners of the area and is one of the most fundamental shops in Four Corners.

The combination of Groundswell Cafe & Bakery (more on that later) — located directly across from the ice cream shop — and Gray’s is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth. Gray’s features a variety of classic ice cream, frozen yogurt, sugarless ice cream, sorbets, and specialty and seasonal flavors. While the brand also has a location in Bristol, the Tiverton shop is its home base and where all of its flavors are made. Some interesting and more uncommon flavors offered at Gray’s include Coffee Chip, Frozen Pudding, Orange Pineapple, Apple Caramel Spice, Indian Pudding, and Strawberry Cheesecake. If you visit in the summer, you’ll be privy to four sorbet flavors — lemon, raspberry, orange, and watermelon. Pumpkin ice cream is available in the fall, with eggnog ice cream replacing it in the winter.

As you may have gathered, Gray’s is open during all seasons, unlike many other ice cream parlors. In fact, its website boasts that it is open all days of the year!

Gray’s is a definitely homey spot; I spotted many families enjoying cones when I visited, many of whom knew the ice cream scoopers. It also has free (and usually available) parking and quaint, covered wooden benches to eat at. Or, you can take your ice cream to go as you explore the area, as I did with my delicious black raspberry chip ice cream cone. Even though it was a hot day, my ice cream barely melted as I walked around, preventing the ice cream soup that notoriously characterizes summer.

While everything in Four Corners is generally close to each other, Gray’s is in the backyard of the historic Chace-Cory House and a short dirt path away from the various art galleries in the area.
