Nevada puts five on all-HOIC girls basketball teams: Maddie Dunham makes first team
Five members of the Nevada girls basketball team were named all-Heart of Iowa Conference in 2021-2022 after the Cubs placed third in the conference with a 10-4 record.
The Cubs put one player on the first team and also had two chosen to the second team and a pair named honorable mention.
Senior Maddie Dunham was the Nevada player given first-team honors. She was joined by Roland-Story's Reagan Barkema and Reece Johnson, West Marshall's Katy Reyerson and Bella Borgos, South Hamilton's Makena Galetich, Prairie City-Monroe's Addison Steenhoek and Perry's Lydia Olejniczak.
Dunham averaged 9.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals in conference play. She shot 42.6 % from the field.
Seniors Shelbi Hazlitt and Alexandria Arnaud were the Nevada players named to the second team.
Hazlitt averaged 9.1 points, 5 rebounds and 1.8 steals. She hit 14 3-pointers against HOIC teams.
Arnaud put up 6 points, 2.3 assists and 2 rebounds per game. She hit 8 3-pointers against conference foes.
The other players chosen to the all-HOIC second team were West Marshall's Kiki Pfantz, Roland-Story's Madison Geise and Madi Bauer, South Hamilton's Hallee Feaker, Perry's Jayna Keeney and Greene County's Briana Habben.
Junior guard Bridget Cahill and sophomore forward Emma Strottman were the two Cubs named honorable mention.
Cahill hit 29 3-pointers and averaged 7.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in HOIC games. Strottman tallied 4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and she shot 51.1 % from the field.
