NCAA Football Rankings 2022: Predicting Top Movers in Week 7 Top 25 Standings
The Pac-12 teams in the AP Top 25 will be rearranged for the second straight week thanks to the UCLA Bruins.
UCLA gained one of the biggest wins on the Week 6 slate, as it knocked off the Utah Utes inside the Rose Bowl.
Chip Kelly's team is 6-0 with consecutive wins over Utah and the Washington Huskies that trimmed down the list of Pac-12 title contenders.
UCLA should receive a decent-sized boost from the voters on Sunday since two other teams that entered Saturday ahead of it lost in Week 6.
The main debate surrounding the Top 25 should put the Alabama Crimson Tide's top spot under fire.
Alabama did not look great in its win over the Texas A&M Aggies and a case could be made that it is the Ohio State Buckeyes' turn to take control of the top position.
Utah and UCLA will be headed in different directions in the AP Top 25.
Utah is expected to tumble a handful of spots from No. 11. The Utes suffered their second loss of the season against UCLA on Saturday. Utah's first loss occurred in Week 1 at the hands of the Florida Gators.
The Utes will probably drop around five or six spots. Their drop will be cushioned by the falling of a few teams beneath them in the 11-20 range. The BYU Cougars lost a neutral site game to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Kentucky Wildcats fell to the South Carolina Gamecocks without quarterback Will Levis and the Kansas Jayhawks lost their ranked battle with the TCU Horned Frogs.
Utah will still be ranked ahead of its home clash with the USC Trojans in Week 7, but it will be nowhere close to as high as the Utes could have been with a win over UCLA.
UCLA should move up at least three spots ahead of Utah, Kentucky and BYU. The Bruins could experience more upward movement because of their recent resume.
UCLA knocked off Washington and Utah in consecutive weeks at home to establish itself as a contender in the Pac-12 alongside USC and the Oregon Ducks.
The Bruins will still be ranked behind the Trojans and Ducks, but now their trip to Eugene, Oregon in two weeks will be at minimum a top 15 showdown since both teams have Week 7 byes.
TCU showcased that it is a real contender in the Big 12 by beating the Kansas Jayhawks on the road one week after it obliterated the Oklahoma Sooners.
The Horned Frogs won a tight 38-31 affair in Lawrence, Kansas to gain a bit of separation in the Big 12 standings from the other title contenders.
TCU should easily move inside the top 15 by way of its ranked road win over Kansas and the drops that Utah, BYU and Kentucky are about to experience.
Sonny Dykes' team will be tested yet again in Week 7, as it hosts the Oklahoma State Cowboys in what is now a massive game in the Big 12 title race.
TCU, Oklahoma State and the Kansas State Wildcats are the only three unbeaten teams left in Big 12 play. TCU plays the other two undefeated sides in league action for consecutive weeks.
The good news for the Horned Frogs is that both Oklahoma State and Kansas State have to come to Fort Worth, Texas to prove their conference championship mettle.
TCU's schedule gets much easier in two weeks' time, but for now, it needs to focus on Oklahoma State in a game in which the winner could poke its head into the College Football Playoff conversation.
Alabama barely escaped its home clash with the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday.
The top-ranked Crimson Tide were plagued by turnovers from Jalen Milroe, missed field goals and some untimely second-half penalties.
Texas A&M was one throw away from leaving Bryant-Denny Stadium with its second straight win over Nick Saban's program.
Alabama did not look like a top-ranked team on Saturday and it could vacate the No. 1 spot in the AP poll by dropping to No. 2 or No. 3.
The Ohio State Buckeyes were the most dominant top-three team on Saturday. They blew through the Michigan State Spartans to a 49-20 win.
Ohio State has six double-digit victories and it produced at least 45 points in each of the last five games.
The Buckeyes are putting up these numbers with injury issues of their own. That makes the offensive output even more impressive.
Ohio State deserves its shot at the No. 1 ranking. Alabama and the Georgia Bulldogs have had their opportunities already this season.
If the change occurs, Ohio State will sit on top of the rankings for at least two weeks since it has a Week 7 bye and then plays the Iowa Hawkeyes in Week 8. The Week 9 clash with the Penn State Nittany Lions will serve as a true measuring stick of where the Buckeyes stand. That could either reinforce their high ranking, or drop them a few spots and put their playoff life at risk.
