A gym along a bustling road in southeast Columbia is back with a new look.

The Planet Fitness at 7531 Garners Ferry Road reopened on Aug. 4, per a spokesman for the company. The fitness center had been closed since early June for extensive renovations.

The Garners Ferry Planet Fitness is located southeast of Interstate 77, in a shopping center that also includes an Ollie’s, a Hibbett Sports, a Harbor Freight Tools and other shops. It’s across the street from a Walmart Supercenter.

Per the company, renovations to the location include new cardio equipment, additional tanning booths, new showers and locker rooms and new specialty PF360 strength equipment.

While the gym’s doors already have reopened, it will also have a grand reopening celebration event from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 17, a spokesman said.

Garners Ferry Road continues to be one of the most high-traffic non-interstate roadways in the Midlands. State Department of Transportation data show that more than 50,000 cars per day travel down the stretch of Garners Ferry just south of Interstate 77.

And it’s a corridor that continues to add businesses. A Scooter’s Coffee recently opened at 7808 Garners Ferry, and a 7Brew Coffee is being constructed in the 7200 block of the road.
