Stage 3

Lap 301: Martin Truex Jr. dominates the final restart of the day — and earns his first victory at his home racetrack as a result. That’s Truex’s third win of the 2023 season. More to come soon! Lap 291: And we’re green for what will likely be the final time!

Lap 289: Christopher Bell had a Top 10 run going after starting on the pole — and now he’s staring at a bottom-half finish. Bell got loose on a turn and rammed into the wall, and that prompted a caution. His teammate, Martin Truex Jr., quips over the radio that he needs to impart Bell with some veteran wisdom: Don’t wreck on your own when your teammate is in the lead.

Lap 280: Wreck on the restart! Ty Gibbs appears to get in the back of Alex Bowman, who then causes enough contact to prompt a caution. We’ll get another restart soon. Everyone staying out. The Top 10: Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Kyle Larson, Tyler Reddick, Chase Briscoe, Austin Dillon, Christoper Bell, Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin.

Lap 274: Under caution, all cars make what they expect to be their final pit stops. Martin Truex Jr. with a great pit stop. Big news, however: Ryan Blaney is forced to drop to the rear of the field after incurring a running over equipment penalty. Brutal. The Top 3 now: Kevin Harvick (stayed out), Austin Dillon (stayed out), Truex.

Lap 270: Noah Gragson sees a right-front tire failure — could also be a brake rotor failure — and knocks into the wall very hard. Caution comes out with about 30 laps to go in this one. The Legacy Motor Club driver has had a tough rookie season; his teammate, Erik Jones, is running P14.

Lap 251: Green flag pit stops have commenced! Ryan Blaney, running second, goes first. Martin Truex Jr. from the lead appears to hold serve. The 19 team has had a flawless day — even if Blaney’s car is the best in the field. The Top 10 now that (almost) everyone has cycled through: Truex, Blaney, Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, Christopher Bell, Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace, Austin Cindric, Chase Briscoe. (Austin Dillon and Daniel Suarez are running in the Top 10, too, but they won’t be able to make it to the end of the race on fuel.)

Lap 217: This race is increasingly becoming a duel between Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Blaney. The 19 and 12 cars are leading the pack with two seconds separating them over the rest of the field. These two always seem to be entangled: They were battling for the final playoff spot last year, and they each broke huge winless streaks earlier this year. (When Blaney won the Coca-Cola 600, Truex made a point to say he was proud of Blaney given their recent shared past.) The rest of the Top 10: Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, Bubba Wallace, Kevin Harvick.

Lap 193: We’re green! Martin Truex Jr. dominating again — almost 0.5 seconds ahead of second-place Ryan Blaney already.

Lap 190: Going green soon, but the Top 10 entering Stage 3: Martin Truex Jr. (who stayed out), Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Harrison Burton, Chase Briscoe, Chase Elliott, Austin Dillon, Todd Gilliland. (The bulk of the back of the Top 10 — Chase Elliott included — stayed out after pitting after Aric Almirola’s wreck around Lap 171.) Kyle Larson drops to P15 after exchanging a fresh four tires on the stage caution.

Stage 2

Lap 185: Martin Truex Jr. hangs on for a Stage 2 win! This is the second straight year where Truex has won both of the first two stages at New Hampshire. (Christopher Bell obviously took a win away from him last year.) Truex’s lead over the field shrunk to just 0.7 seconds by the end of Stage 2, but a lot of that had to do with the multiple restarts after the Erik Jones spin and the Aric Almirola crash. Everyone earning stage points after Stage 2: Truex, Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick, Alex Bowman, Brad Keselowski, Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell.

Lap 175: Green green green! Only 11 laps before the end of Stage 2. Your Top 10: Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Bubba Wallace (quite a rise after fighting off MTJ, who was trying to put him a lap down earlier this stage), Alex Bowman, Tyler Reddick, Michael McDowell.

Lap 169: Green once more — but another caution!! Aric Almirola led the field off pit road after a productive pit stop, but then he gets crushed into the wall. Huge damage on the right-rear tire. Window net is down, so that means Almirola is done for the day. Loose lug nut. Tough end to a promising day in a tough season for the 10 team.

Lap 163: Erik Jones goes around! Caution is out. The 43 car was having a decent day for Legacy Motor Club — running as high as P11 at one point — but he gets up into the fence and then spins out as he tries to get back into a raceable groove. He was running P24 when he spun. (This caution can flip the fortunes of a bunch of cars — considering how abundant passing on pit road has been today.)

Lap 160: There are only 18 cars on the lead lap, which means about half of the field is a lap down. That just goes to show how long of a green-flag run we’ve seen in Stage 2 — as well as how great Martin Truex Jr. has been today. The 19 is running about 5 seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Lap 129: Tyler Reddick begins a bunch of green-flag pit stops. Christopher Bell finally has a solid pit stop (four tires). Fantastic stop by the 19 pit crew (Martin Truex Jr.); he even appears to gain on his four-second lead over Aric Almirola coming off pit road. Your Top 10 now that the field has cycled through: Truex, Austin Dillon (where’d he come from?), Almirola, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, Christopher Bell, Kevin Harvick.

Lap 112: Christopher Bell is 0-for-2 on pit road. He’s doing a great job rising through the field (in P11) after starting toward the back in Stage 2. He just notched the fastest lap on the racetrack, edging Martin Truex Jr. by .02 seconds. Can he continue passing people while keeping his car healthy? Bell started on the pole on Monday and was last year’s New Hampshire winner.

Lap 78: Anddddd we’re green green green! Important notes: BJ McLeod and Tyler Reddick are both slapped with speeding on pit road penalties. Christopher Bell has to make another trip down pit lane because of a loose wheel. So the new Top 10 all things considered: Martin Truex Jr., Aric Almirola, William Byron, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez, Bubba Wallace.

Lap 72: Before the race off pit road during the stage caution commences, the No. 8 team informs Busch via radio that he’s done for the day. The car suffered a ton of damage on the right side after ramming into the fence at the end of Stage 1. If it’s any consolation, it wasn’t really a good day for the veteran driver after starting from the rear and not really rising through the field. Corey LaJoie is also involved and is also in danger of losing his perfect mark of finishing every race this season.

Stage 1

Lap 70: That’s Martin Truex Jr. with the Stage 1 win. He’s led pretty much all day, and he’s proven to be one of the few drivers who can pass today. His pass of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. puts Stenhouse down a lap. Those also receiving stage points (in order): William Byron, Tyler Reddick, Aric Almirola, Ryan Blaney, Christopher Bell, Denny Hamlin, Daniel Suarez, Joey Logano, Michael McDowell.

Lap 54: Ty Gibbs has risen up the field. That’s 25 spots since starting at the rear of the field after an incident during qualifying. The 54 car has been great all weekend. He now sits 13th.

Lap 40: We’ve found a groove — at least among the Top 10. Those cars are: William Byron, Martin Truex Jr., Tyler Reddick, Aric Almirola, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Daniel Suarez, Christopher Bell, Michael McDowell, Joey Logano.

Lap 34: We’re green again!

Lap 30: Spin! AJ Allmendinger’s slide prompts a caution. He was running 11th and cycles back running 15th. Everyone is slipping and sliding today — which seems to be the modus operandi of New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s flat mile. The field files down pit road, and the race off pit road matters a ton. William Byron leads the field off pit lane (two tires); Denny Hamlin jumps up nine spots on pit lane after taking two tires, too. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. stays out to lead the field on the restart.

Lap 10: Martin Truex Jr. took the lead from pole-sitter Christopher Bell early. A competition yellow is coming around Lap 30 (after rain washed out racing Sunday). Kyle Busch started from the rear due to unapproved adjustments, and he’s still in the back. Not a ton of movement despite the flat track making for some interesting three-wide moments. Top 10 at the moment: Truex, Bell, Joey Logano, Aric Almirola, Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, William Byron, Daniel Suarez, Brad Keselowski.

Green flag, 12:05 p.m.: Green green green!

11:40 a.m.: Today’s green flag is set for 12:05 p.m. after Sunday’s start time was rained out. Catch the race on USA Network or SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. This will be the third race of the Cup season where weather pushed a green flag to another day. The others: Dover (where Martin Truex Jr. broke a huge winless streak) and Charlotte (where Ryan Blaney broke an even longer winless streak). Could we see an old name get a momentous win? Maybe Kevin Harvick?

Starting lineup at Loudon

Christopher Bell earned the pole after registering a best lap of 124.781 mph in the final round of qualifying on Saturday. It’s his first pole win of the season for the Toyota driver and the fifth of his Cup career.

He’ll be joined on the front row by Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Martin Truex Jr., and Ford drivers Aric Almirola and Joey Logano will begin right behind them.
