Nancy Pelosi To Run For Reelection In 2024 For Another Term In Congress
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Friday that she planned to seek reelection to her San Francisco congressional seat.
“Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery. Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote,” she said in a post on her campaign’s Twitter/X page.

Pelosi, 83, who holds the title of speaker emeritus, stepped down from Democratic leadership earlier this year, as Republicans regained a slim majority in the House. But she has remained in her congressional seat despite speculation that she would retire. She was first elected in 1987, and had been Democratic leader since 2003. She served two stints as speaker, from 2007 to 2011, and from 2019 to 2023.
Pelosi has been a key fundraiser for Democrats, especially as they eye retaking the House given Republicans narrow majority. Hakeem Jeffries succeeded her as Democratic leader.
Pelosi’s announcement comes a day after Politico’s Jonathan Martin published a profile of her, rampant with questions of what she planned to do next.
More to come.
