MTSU baseball coach Jim Toman charged with DUI Saturday morning
Middle Tennessee State baseball coach Jim Toman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Saturday morning.
He was booked into the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center at 3:31 a.m. Saturday after being arrested at 12:17 a.m. and released on his own recognizance less than an hour later, according to records from the sheriff's office.
"We are aware of the arrest of Jim Toman on a DUI charge Friday night," MTSU Athletic Director Chris Massaro said in a statement. "It is very early in the process as we are still gathering information on the incident. We are disappointed and take these matters very seriously."
Toman, 60, was hired as MTSU's baseball coach in June 2018, just the fourth coach since 1974.

He led the Blue Raiders to a 29-26 finish in 2022, including 17-13 in Conference USA. The Blue Raiders were 24-29-1 in 2021. MTSU is 78-104 in his four seasons, which included a 7-10 mark during an abbreviated 2020 season.
Prior to MTSU, Toman was an assistant at the College of Charleston (2018), head coach at Liberty (2008-16) and associate head coach at South Carolina (1996-2007).
Toman was named the National Assistant Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Baseball America in 2002 while with the Gamecocks.
Toman played high school baseball in Pennsylvania before playing four years at North Carolina State as a catcher (1981-84).
After that he coached high school ball in North Carolina, was an assistant at Florida International in 1990 and also coached in the Cape Cod League.
