How Montana Fouts rescued Alabama softball to force Game 3 vs. Northwestern in super regional
It'll be a winner-take-all game Sunday at Rhoads Stadium.
Alabama softball got a 2-1 win over Northwestern in Game 2 on Saturday night to force the if-necessary game in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional at 3:05 p.m on ESPN on Sunday. Larissa Preuitt scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on an Ashley Prange single.
Montana Fouts came into the game in the fifth inning, going scoreless the rest of the way with two strikeouts.
Prange got the game started with a double, then was moved around the bases with productive outs to score the first and, for a while, only run of the game. Northwestern tied it up in the fifth before Alabama turned back to Fouts.

Teams trade huge moments
In what could've been a game-changing pitch, Jaala Torrence was able to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the third. She had Angela Zedak, the Wildcats' home run leader, in a full count with two outs. A called strike ended the inning, swinging momentum for Alabama.
In the fourth, Alabama got its first two runners on but saw the next three batters get out, including Kali Heivlin, one of the hottest hitters for Alabama, who struck out with two outs.
Stong start from Jaala Torrence
One of the pillars of postseason success for coach Patrick Murphy is getting a quality start from the pitcher. Torrence gave Alabama four innings of scoreless ball before allowing a run in the fifth. She allowed seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Alabama fails to take advantage
The Crimson Tide left six batters on base across three innings where it had two on with varying outs. Alabama went 1-for-7 with runners on but only garnered four hits through six innings.
