When Missouri men’s basketball takes the court against Iowa State on Saturday, the team’s uniforms will look familiar to Tiger fans of a certain age. MU announced on Wednesday that head coach Dennis Gates’ squad will don throwback jerseys and shorts, harkening back to the ones it wore until the mid-1990s.

The uniforms were announced in a social media video featuring Kobe Brown, D'Moi Hodge and Nick Honor modeling the look. The unveiling was intercut with highlights from the Norm Stewart era of MU basketball.

The white jerseys include a large gold block M logo as part of the word “Missouri” printed across the chest, with the rest of the letters in black. The numbers on both the front and back are gold and the jerseys include black and gold stripes surrounding the arm and neck holes.

The shorts include a Tiger paw logo, just like on the originals. Not part of the uniforms that inspired the throwback look is the Nike swoosh logo printed on the right side of the jersey chests, along with SEC patches

Replica jerseys are currently available to purchase from Fanatics.

The move would seem to be another attempt by Gates and his team to embrace the tradition of Missouri basketball. Gates has made it clear throughout his short tenure that he is well aware of where the program has been, invoking the name of every living former MU coach, from Norm Stewart to Cuonzo Martin.

The Tigers’ Saturday matchup with old Big Eight/12 rival Iowa State at Mizzou Arena is part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge and will be aired on ESPN2. It is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Missouri enters the game fresh off a win at Ole Miss, its first road SEC victory of the year. The Tigers, who had been on a cold streak shooting the ball, hit 16 three-pointers in the game, their most ever in an SEC matchup.

Saturday’s matchup is sold out.
