Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl offensive tackle Terron Armstead on PUP after knee surgery
MIAMI GARDENS -- Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is optimistic Pro Bowl left tackle Terron Armstead will return "sooner" after offseason knee surgery.
McDaniel, who spoke for 20 minutes Wednesday ahead of the Dolphins' first day of training camp, confirmed Armstead underwent arthroscopic surgery.
"He had some cleanup work done," McDaniel said when asked if Armstead was scoped. "Yeah, that was part of his offseason."
Armstead was selected to the Pro Bowl last season despite missing four games, all in the regular season. He battled toe, pectoral, knee and hip injuries, which severely limited his practice time during the season. After sitting out the final two regular-season games, Armstead returned for Miami's playoff game at Buffalo

After injuring his toe in the first week, Armstead was told he would have been better off having surgery, which would have ended his season after one game. He played through the damaged toe the rest of the season.
Armstead is one of four players starting training camp on the active/physically unable to perform list, joining cornerback Nik Needham (Achilles), tight end Tanner Connor (knee) and offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn (foot),
McDaniel would not expand on their progress.
"I tried predicting the future last year and failed miserably," McDaniel said. "So having said that, I think if I would order where the guys are at … I'm expecting sooner with Armstead and Wynn, then Nik, then Tanner.
"As far as when that is, like I said, I've kind of learned my lesson on that. But we feel pretty good about each and every one of them in terms of where they're at and where they need to be. We'll keep you posted."
