MHSAA track state finals roundup: Corunna boys take title, Mason second in Division 2

Wyatt Bower had a strong day for the Corunna boys track team.

And his performance helped the Cavaliers capture the Division 2 state championship Saturday at Forest Hills Eastern.

Bower won the long jump and was part of the state championship 400 relay for Corunna, which finished with 41 points to win claim the title.

Mason tied for second with 35 points.

Bower had a personal-best jump of 22-feet, 8.5-inches while winning the long jump and teamed with Isaac Jacobs, Nick Strauch and Tarick Bower on a 400 relay that had a winning time of 42.63 seconds.

Wyatt Bower also teamed with the same group to finish runner-up in the 800 relay and finished seventh in the 100 dash with a personal-best time of 10.93.

Mason and Alma each had a pair of state champions at the meet. Mason junior Tyler Baker won the 110 hurdles with a personal-best time of 14.63 seconds. Baker was also the runner-up in the long jump (21-11.75) and finished third in the high jump (6-6).

The other state champion for Mason was junior AJ Martel, who won the 300 hurdles with a personal-best time of 38.90 seconds.

Alma’s Michael Howey won the shot put with a throw of 55-8, while Jacoby Dunlap was the high jump champion at 6-7.

Division 4

Behind Brady Feldpausch and Ford Phillips, Fowler finished fourth in the team standings with 37 points.

Feldpausch finished runner-up in the 110 hurdles in 15.20 seconds and 300 hurdles (40.60), while Phillips was the 400 runner-up in 50.77. Phillips and Feldpausch each ran legs on an 800 relay that finished third and a 1,600 relay that took fourth.

Dane Armbrustmacher took seventh in the pole vault for Fowler.

Morrice's Oliver Long finished fourth in the shot put.

Division 1

Waverly junior Evan Walker led the area performances in Division 1 while helping the Warriors finish 17th on Saturday at Rockford. Walker set a personal record in the long jump while taking third with a leap of 22-4 and was seventh in the 400. Walker also ran a leg on Waverly's 800 relay that placed fourth.

GIRLS

Division 1

East Lansing senior Anna Delgado ended her high school running career on a strong note to lead the area performances at the state finals Saturday at Rockford.

Delgado capped a strong spring by finishing as the champion in the 3,200 and the runner-up in the 1,600. She had a personal-best time of 10:33.87 in the 3,200 and a personal-record time in the 1600 of 4:48.88.

The performances by Delgado helped East Lansing finish 10th as a team.

Grand Ledge got a third-place finish from Taylor Pangburn in the 1,600 and has Ashley Richburg take fifth in the long jump.

Holt’s Lauren Walker was eighth in the 800.

Division 2

Mason finished third to lead the team finishers at Saturday’s state finals at Forest Hills Eastern.

Rileu Gill was a top performer for Mason and finished third in both the 100 and 300 hurdles. Gill was also a part of the 800 and 1,600 relays that finished third for the Bulldogs.

Charlotte had the lone individual state champion with Annabelle Densmore taking the 300 hurdles title in 45.06 seconds. Densmore was also sixth in the 100.

Owosso’s Claire Agnew placed third in the pole vault.

Division 4

Rylee Scheurer and Sophia Schrauben helped lead Portland St. Patrick to a state runner-up finish on Saturday. The Shamrocks ended with 49 points, while Fowler finished fourth with a score of 36.

Scheurer was the state champion in the 200 with a time of 25.82 seconds and took third in the 100. Schrauben finished fourth in both the 100 and 300 hurdles and ran a leg on a 1,600 relay that finished second.

Fowler got a strong showing from Katie Spicer, who was third in the 200 and ran a leg on the state champion 800 relay that also included Grace O'Hare, Ella Hufnagel and Michaela Spitzley. Spicer also was part of a state runner-up 400 relay.

Fulton's Emily Stinson finished third in the shot put and Webberville's Ryleigh Nelson took fourth in the long jump at the meet.
