Memphis football LB Geoffrey Cantin-Arku announces return for 2023 season
Geoffrey Cantin-Arku came to Memphis football nearly a year ago looking for a fresh start after starting his career at Syracuse. On Tuesday, the linebacker assured fans that he's happy with what he found.
Cantin-Arku announced on Twitter that he will be back for his senior and final season with the Tigers. It comes as the junior is third on the team with 66 tackles heading into the First Responder Bowl against Utah State on Dec. 27 (2:15 p.m., ESPN).
"Unfortunately as a team, we came up short on our goal this year. I am still very proud of my teammates who fought with me every week until the last down," Cantin-Arku wrote. "That fight is a part of why I believe this team will be really successful in the future."

Cantin-Arku had a season-high 12 tackles in the Tigers' regular season finale against SMU. He started 10 of the 12 games he appeared in.
With linebackers Xavier Cullens and Tyler Murray gone after this season along with safety Quindell Johnson, Cantin-Arku will be one of the top returners on next season's defense. The next closest linebacker in tackles in Cincir Evans with 33 tackles.
The Tigers also have added former East Tennessee State linebacker Chandler Martin via the transfer portal. Memphis also recruited three linebackers in its 2023 class, including junior college linebacker Marcus Navarro Jr.
