Meghan Markle Wasn't Emotionally Prepared for the "Backstabbing" Within the Royal Family

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry allegedly felt like they weren't being emotionally supported enough by the royal family.

  • Meghan also wasn't equipped to handle the "backstabbing" of the royal family.

It's officially been six days since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed that they'd be stepping back as senior royals, and life truly hasn't been the same ever since. After Meghan and Harry made their announcement without telling a single soul, Queen Elizabeth finally gave in to their wishes to go to Canada after hosting the royal summit. She's allowing Meghan and Harry to do whatever TF they want (within reason, ofc), but that doesn't mean that this entire drama is getting wrapped up into a neat little bow—there's so much lingering tension underneath the surface.

A friend close to Meghan and Harry just came forward, and told People that Meghan and Harry didn't exactly wish to handle stepping back in the way that they did, but they allegedly felt like they didn't have much of a choice. “This is not how they wanted to handle this, but Meghan and Harry’s hand was forced,” the source said. “There is so much bad blood in that family— it’s toxic. If relationships had been better, things would have been different.”

It's also no secret that Meghan was (and probably still is) feeling incredibly stressed out by the amount of negative press surrounding her—remember that letter Harry wrote stating he'd be suing Daily Mail for bullying her? Now, a royal source confirmed to People that all of these mean stories left Meghan “deeply, deeply hurt” and feeling like the royal family didn't fully support her. “Meghan and Harry didn’t feel they got enough comfort or solace from them,” the source added.

Us Weekly had a report of their own echoing Meghan's mistreatment at the hands of the royal fam. “Meghan knew life as a royal wouldn’t be easy,” the source said. “But nothing prepared her for the constant criticism and drama and backstabbing that goes on behind palace doors.”

And if that isn't sad enough, Harry reportedly feels like he is to blame for Meghan's stress. “To say he’s upset about the way the royals and the U.K. press have treated Meghan is an understatement,” Us' source explained.

While this incredibly distressing to read (let alone experience), the silver lining here is that Harry is on his way to Canada pretty soon—Meghan is already there with Archie. Hopefully they can get back to enjoying their lives with a significant amount of stress to worry about!
