The Invictus Games have always held special significance for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. In 2017, the duo made their first public appearance a the Invictus Games in Toronto, sparking both a media and public fascination with the then 36-year-old "Suits" actress and her royal beau.
Since entering the spotlight as Prince Harry's partner, Meghan Markle has become one of the most famous people in the world— and the most fashionable. For royal watchers, her ensemble at the Toronto Invictus Games catapulted her into the limelight as an unintentional style influencer.
Markle's first "viral" look from the Paralympic-style sporting event featured a crisp white button-down shirt by designer Misha Nonoo, aptly called the "Husband Shirt." The would-be Duchess paired the slightly oversized shirt a pair of Frayed Looker Ankle Jeans by Mother denim, Sarah Flint "Natalie" Flats, Everlane's Day Market Tote (no longer available) and Finlay's "Percy" sunglasses.
Following the appearance, the internet blew up with queries like, “Who Is Misha Nonoo?” and “How To Wear A White Shirt Like Meghan Markle.”

$258 CAD/ $205 USD at Misha Nonoo
Misha Nonoo is a British-Bahraini fashion designer best known for her eponymous line of ready-to-wear, and her (now famous) Husband Shirt has become a wardrobe essential amongst CEOs, entrepreneurs and global leaders around the world.
Turns out, the Duchess-designer duo have been gal pals for years and it’s rumoured that Nonoo actually set Markle up on a blind date with the prince.
We can only imagine their friendship could have only grown stronger once Markle made the Husband Shirt fit for royalty, and of course, working women across the globe.
I’m not the only one who thinks so - Sally Holmes, the editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, classified the Husband Shirt as the item she wears to death and “The Perfect White Button Down” (or PWBD for short).
Holmes was on the prowl for a PWBD for at least five years, always finding “something off” about every shirt she tried on or returned. Many were too sheer, too boxy, or too girly, which are all things I’ve struggled with on my own scavenger hunt for the PWBD.
Throughout my search, I found that a white button-down is one of the easiest things to reach for when you think of “business attire.” However, finding the right fit, style and quality of fabric is not always a simple task.
I recently rounded up a list of 15 of the best white button-downs to shop for fall/winter (or any time, really), but I never thought I’d love one this much.
Like Holmes, I now wear my Husband Shirt weekly. So what makes it so special? Read on to find out.
One feature that makes the Husband Shirt so unique is that it’s completely customizable. To build your own, all you have to do is choose your fabric, stud finish and top everything off with your personal monogram on the back.
Available in five different colours and patterns including a timeless pinstripe, you can choose from four different studs options including a brassy rose gold and silver, like mine.
And trust me, no one in your (virtual) office has ever seen “buttons” like this before. Nonoo cleverly designed them to resemble push pins, without having them come off as a cheesy detail.
The best part? They take no time to undo at the end of a long day and never loosen thanks to the screw-like backing that holds them in place.
Truly, the Husband Shirt is not your average button-up. Tucked into jeans (like my vintage Levi’s) instead of a pencil skirt, it’s just as modern and chic.
Though the Husband Shirt has an oversized fit, the Misha Nonoo team suggests that if the arms feel like they were made for you, you’ve found your correct size.
Even with tuxedo-style studs, pleating, and elongated cuffs for maximum styling flexibility, the Husband Shirt gives off an elegant, feminine flair.
Not to mention, the signature MN logo embroidered below the collar gives the Husband Shirt an elevated, extra special touch.
As far as I’m concerned, personalization down to the studs could never be a bad thing. Now, I look forward to dressing down my Husband Shirt on my days off. I think you will too.
