MBA three-star quarterback Marcel Reed commits to Ole Miss, Lane Kiffin

Three-star quarterback Marcel Reed is headed to Ole Miss football and coach Lane Kiffin.

Reed, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound multi-sport athlete at Montgomery Bell Academy, announced his commitment to the Rebels for the Class of 2023 during a ceremony Monday at MBA.

Reed, who is the son of former Tennessee State football coach Rod Reed, has started at quarterback for the Big Red since his freshman year, leading them to two TSSAA Division II-AAA state runner-up finishes.

Reed is the No. 11 prospect in Tennessee according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 20 quarterback in the country. Marcel was in Oxford this past weekend, tweeting a picture with Kiffin.

It became clear during the 2021 season that Marcel was enamored with Ole Miss and its offense.

Reed saw the Rebels in person multiple times in 2021, taking an unofficial trip to Oxford on Oct. 9 when Ole Miss beat Arkansas 52-51. He saw Ole Miss in Knoxville on an unofficial to Tennessee on Oct. 16 when the Rebels beat the Vols 31-26.

He was scheduled to go to Alabama on Oct. 2 when the Crimson Tide hosted Ole Miss, but had to cancel after sustaining an injury the night prior in a high school game.

And Kiffin was at MBA in late January on a visit.

But offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jeff Lebby left Ole Miss for the same position at Oklahoma in the offseason and was replaced by Charlie Weiss Jr., the Rebels' co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

It didn't sway Reed.

Reed was 115-of-211 passing for 1,513 yards in 13 games with 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2021. He also had 593 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs. For his career, Reed has thrown for 4,159 yards with 35 touchdowns and 18 interceptions while also rushing for 1,333 yards with 23 rushing TDs.

Eight of the top 15 college prospects in Tennessee have now committed, including six going to SEC programs.
