Apple TV+’s wartime drama Masters of the Air will premiere Friday, Jan. 26, TVLine has learned. Austin Butler (Elvis) and Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin) lead an ensemble cast in a true story about American pilots conducting dangerous bombing raids over Nazi Germany. The project is based on the book by Donald L. Miller and reunites executive producers Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, who previously worked together on HBO’s Band of Brothers and The Pacific.
“Masters of the Air is a salute to the brave men of the 8th Air Force, who, through their courage and brotherhood, helped defeat Nazi Germany in World War II,” Goetzman said in a statement. “Tom and Steven have always wanted to visualize cinematically what our author Don Miller has called this ‘singular event in the history of warfare.’ We’re thrilled that Apple TV+ has given us the opportunity to combine the efforts of so many talented people, on-screen and behind the camera, to tell this important story.”
The cast also includes Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook, and Ncuti Gatwa. John Orloff, who worked on Band of Brothers, serves as writer on the nine-episode limited series.
