A Man Was Caught Transporting His Massive Watusi Bull in the Passenger's Seat of a Modified Crown Victoria
Well, that’s one way to use the carpool lane.
Police officers with the Norfolk Division in Nebraska responded to a peculiar call Wednesday, after motorists reported someone traveling down Highway 275 with a cow in his car. When they arrived, the cops were astonished to find a gigantic Watusi bull riding shotgun in a modified Crown Victoria.
Photos and video of the episode show the massive black-and-white bull—whose name is Howdy Doody—cruising confidently beside his owner, Lee Meyer. After being pulled over, Meyer can be seen calmly chatting with an officer while stroking Howdy Doody’s horns to comfort him.
“The officers received a call referencing a car driving into town that had a cow in it,” Police Captain Chad Reiman told News Channel Nebraska. “They thought that it was going to be a calf, something small or something that would actually fit inside the vehicle.”
Technically, Howdy Doody did fit into the car. Meyer equipped his Crown Vic to ferry the celebrity bull to his myriad carnival appearances throughout the Cornhusker State. A heavy metal gate usually seen on animal enclosures was fitted over the passenger-side door, and a sign affixed to it indicated the pair were returning from an appearance. “Nebraska’s Big Rodeo Parade: Best Car Entry,” it read.
Regardless of the fit, officers still had to issue Meyer a few tickets. “There were some citable issues with that situation,” Reiman reported. Ultimately, though, “the officer chose to write him a warning.” Meyer was instructed to leave town with Howdy Doody, presumably before sundown.
