Lubbock-area fire departments respond to several blazes Monday
Numerous Lubbock County fire departments responded to several structure fires in and around Lubbock Monday, according to information provided by those departments. No injuries were reported in any of the fires.
About 10:30 a.m. Monday, Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to Bryan's Steaks in the 1200 block of 50th Street for reports of a fire that started at the grill. An employee at the restaurant called 911 to report the fire, LFR said. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a working fire which had traveled through the restaurant's vent hood system into the attic. The fire was contained and Bryan's remained closed for the rest of the day.
Later that afternoon, Buffalo Springs, Slaton and Roosevelt volunteer fire departments were called to East County Road 7200 and County Road 3100 for a controlled burn which had gotten out of control and was threatening a structure, according to the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. LCSO said officials were not notified of the planned burn beforehand.
Firefighters arrived about 5:30 p.m. to find a home and garage fully engulfed in flames, LCSO said. The home was not occupied at the time of the fire, which remains under investigation.
Overnight Monday, crews were called to another house fire just northeast of Lubbock. Lubbock Fire Rescue, along with Idalou, New Deal and Roosevelt volunteer fire departments responded about 11 p.m. to the 4900 block of East County Road 6420 to find a fully involved structure fire, LCSO said. Officials learned all people and pets made it safely out of the home. The cause of that fire is not yet known.
