LSU baseball score vs. Mississippi State: Live updates from three-game series
BATON ROUGE – No. 2 LSU baseball will try to earn another series victory, as the Tigers face Mississippi State for Game 3 of their three-game series on Sunday (1 p.m., SEC Network+).
The Tigers (39-11, 17-8) beat the Bulldogs in seven innings on Friday, 12-1, but lost on Saturday after holding a two-run lead entering the eighth inning, 9-4.
LSU held a 4-2 lead entering the eighth inning but surrendered six runs, allowing a two-run home run, three-run home run and RBI single. Five of the six runs were charged to Thatcher Hurd who allowed three hits without recording an out. Hurd was replaced by Riley Cooper who allowed a run in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Tigers' offense also struggled to break through all night. The unit had just six hits against one of the weaker pitching staffs in the SEC.
Despite the loss, starting pitcher Ty Floyd was excellent. He allowed just one earned run in six innings pitched, striking out 10 Bulldogs. LSU held a 2-1 lead by the time he exited the game.
Mississippi State (25-24, 7-19) got swept by Arkansas last weekend and had its game on Tuesday against Memphis canceled due to inclement weather before this weekend's series.
