LSU baseball: Injury updates on Tommy 'Tanks' White, Garrett Edwards and Paxton Kling

BATON ROUGE ― Injuries have become an unfortunate theme for No. 1 LSU baseball this season.

The Tigers, despite their standing atop the college baseball world, have dealt with injuries to key hitters like Tommy White and Gavin Dugas; top relievers Chase Shores, Nate Ackenhausen and Garrett Edwards; and important role players Paxton Kling and Brady Neal since the beginning of SEC play.

After LSU's first SEC series sweep of the season last weekend at Ole Miss, coach Jay Johnson spoke with the media on Monday on the Tigers' unavailable players.

Tommy White

White is day-to-day with a sore leg, according to Johnson. White was pulled Sunday during the second inning of the Tigers' come-from-behind victory.

With LSU (32-7, 12-5) facing Nicholls State on Tuesday (6:30 p.m., SEC Network+), Johnson did not rule out White returning to the lineup for the midweek matchup. The Tigers play a three-game series against Alabama, starting Friday at Alex Box Stadium.

"We'll see. If he can play, we want him to play," Johnson said.

Garrett Edwards and Chase Shores

Johnson had no update on Shores' injury and said Edwards would be out for the next week or two.

Edwards injured his arm while throwing a changeup during LSU's win over South Carolina on April 7, but was throwing a football in the outfield with Brady Neal before Sunday's game.

Shores has been out since his appearance against Tennessee on March 31.

Paxton Kling and Brady Neal

Kling, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury, is closer to returning than Johnson originally thought. He also took batting practice before Sunday's game.

"Baseball is a first step and reaction game, whether you're getting out of the box or you're going to catch a fly ball or you're breaking on the bases," Johnson said. "So with a hamstring injury, that's always the last hurdle is that initial start and the fast twitch thing.

"So that's kind of the last layer that we got to get beyond."

Neal had a workout on Sunday, but not a baseball one, according to Johnson. Neal has been out since the Kentucky series with an undisclosed injury.
