Take a look inside the Wrigley Center Lofts
Downtown Port Huron's largest development is welcoming its first tenants.
At least four people have moved into the Wrigley Center Lofts so far, according to developer Larry Jones. Out of the 36 units available, 19 have been spoken for and their tenants will be moving to the lofts in the next few months. Previously from St. Clair, Kelly Braner was the first tenant to move in.
“We’ve been homeowners for about 25 years and our son is in college, planning on moving out of state next year,” she said. “We figured it was time to try something different. Plus, we like being downtown.”
Braner moved into her loft with her husband last Thursday. She said that Larry Jones, his wife Tracy Jones and property manager Jen Klein have been great whenever she’s needed something related to the lofts.
The lofts are not fully completed, but Tracy Jones estimated they will be finished around by the end of January. Braner said the construction does not bother her because she and her husband have built three houses before.
“It doesn’t bother us, and all the workers are super nice,” she said.
Braner said it gets very quiet when the construction crew is done working after 5 p.m.
Between 24 and 28 lofts are finished. Applications are still being taken for the lofts, however there is a waitlist.
Braner said she is looking forward to the completion of the commercial space on the first floor.
Wrigley Hall will be on the north side, first floor of the Wrigley Center. Dan Dooley, owner of Wrigley Hall, said he wants to get the commercial space completed by summer. Wrigley Hall will include eateries, an entertainment area, a distillery and cocktail lounge.
“We want to have fun stuff happening in here all the time,” Dooley said. “That’s our goal.”
Dooley said the residential and commercial areas are purposely connected. He said having new living spaces near downtown, as well as offering more attractions, will draw more people to Port Huron.
Dooley said the Wrigley Center offers a unique living opportunity to people. He said the pandemic showed that people don’t have to be tethered to the where they work because of remote or hybrid work options. The Wrigley Center will potentially attract every type of person, whether they are working professionals or empty nesters.
“We want to serve as a sort of waypoint for people to come here,” Dooley said. “It’s always been about drawing foot traffic to our downtown.”
The Wrigley Center Lofts are all two bedroom, one bathroom units. Rent ranges from $1,200 to $2,200 a month. Each unit comes with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, LED light fixtures, a fireplace and an area for a washer and dryer.
