Lenawee Christian boys basketball picks up season-opening win
MADISON TWP. — Lenawee Christian wanted to focus more on its defense this season.
Game 1 was certainly a success.
The Cougars boys basketball team limited Madison to six points in the first quarter and 11 in the first half and went on to beat Madison, 53-34, in the season opener for both schools.
“One of our goals was to come out and hold them down and set the tone,” said LCS coach Matt Summer. “I was really proud of our defensive effort.”
LCS used a mix of full court pressure and different defenses.
“We want to mix things up, some press, some man-to-man,” Summer said.
Tyler VanEtten scored 23 points, including 21 in the first half. Brandon Summer scored 11 for the Cougars.
Madison was led by Dominic Regalado, who finished with 10 points.
Addison 58, Sand Creek 54: At Addison, the Panthers overcame a 41-point effort by Sand Creek’s Tylan Waltz to win the season opener.
Nathan Sines scored 17 points and Kobe Farrow 16 to lead Addison, who led 31-27 at halftime and 43-39 through three quarters.
Waltz scored 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Aggies tried to comeback from a five-point third quarter.
Britton Deerfield 47, Pittsford 37: At Pittsford, Mason Mueller and Logan Shiels each scored in double figures as the Patriots started the season with the road win.
Mueller scored 15 points and Shiels finished with 13.
BD’s Nico Johnson, who missed the last couple of games of football season with an injury, played briefly in the game.
