Lakeland Mayor Bill Mutz routs challenger Saga Stevin as incumbents take 2 city commission races
LAKELAND – The incumbent Mayor Bill Mutz beat his challenger Saga Stevin on Tuesday for the top seat in Lakeland, according to unofficial results posted to the Polk County Supervisor of Elections website.
Tallies cast at the polls and mail-in ballots were cast by only 20.13% of the 106,443 registered voters on Election Night around the three cities holding elections in the county.
Mutz won 66.8% of the total votes with 10,919, and Stevin received 33.2% of votes with 5,427.

Incumbent Sara Roberts McCarley won the City Commission District C Southwest seat in Lakeland with 9,660 votes vs. challenger Allyson "Al" Lewis' 5,771 votes.
In Lakeland's City Commission District D Southeast race, incumbent Mike Musick won with 3,962 votes to Shandale Terrell's 2,586.
Both City Charter amendments gained approval from the electorate at all 25 precincts by more than 61% each.
With passage of the amendments, the procedure for filling vacancies on the City Commission now will be amended in the City Charter, and the city attorney and city manager will join the canvassing board if fewer than three members of the panel are available to canvass the returns of a city election.
In Winter Haven, James H. "J.P." Powell defeated Matthew Logan Crowley for City Commission Seat 5. Powell gained 2,434 votes to Crowley's 1,455 votes cast in six precincts.
In Fort Meade, City Commission Seat 1 was won by Jim "Possum" Schaill with 76.04% of the votes. Herlinda Resendez was second with 12.26% and Ashlee Dishong finished last with 11.7% of votes.
Barbara Arnold won City Commission Seat 5 with 580 votes to Samuel Berrien's 470 votes.
